For people who DO like tablet note-taking, what do you like and why? I go between notebooks and a large 2020ish iPad. The iPad feels awkward. I’ve looked at reMarkable many times but I’m not totally sold on it.

Something I find fascinating about the commetariate class, and I’m pointedly including YouTubers, is how they do not live in the same reality as others. “In 2016 everyone was doing this”. That’s not true. In 2016 some people chasing numbers were making posts/videos about this. That’s different.

Under-scrutinized aspect of LLM scamming: the unit economics change the shape of scams. You know why e.g. foreign prince type scams are painfully obvious? So that only people with the most greed / the least scam literacy respond to them. But when responding is cheap, why pre-filter?

Chris Hayes

Rapidly becoming convinced that one major immediate impact of AI diffusion is a massive uptick in the sophistication and scale of scams and hacks. Seeing it everywhere.

If fare inspection is known to be inaccurate, yet continues, it’s just an exercise in letting staff decide who they want to kick off the bus/train.

We learned at MTC meeting today that Clipper fare verification devices will report a rider as unpaid even though they have paid 😱 @bart.gov @sfmta.com @caltrain.com stop all fare inspections until Cubic fixes this! mtc.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=...

I just learned about a new workgroup that is extremely up my alley, and I didn’t try to join it because I already have a major responsibility to focus on. Please clap.

I’m shocked that I’ve never been fired for publicly asking “should we do this” when management wants to own something new. It’s bound to happen eventually!

TONIGHT! AC Transit staff and part of the board is attempting a coup, to prevent members of the board from actually advocating for the constituencies that elected them. “The board exists to rubber-stamp what we tell them and stay quiet” is profoundly undemocratic. Meeting: bsky.app/profile/geor...

George Spies

Elected representatives are responsible to their constituents. Why else have elections? This core understanding is entirely missing. That a board member "should not engage their constituents to attend board meetings and speak out on behalf of their interests", p7, is absurdly anti-democratic. 3/x

Increasingly suspecting it’s not possible to send SMS messages for any hobby projects anymore. Been going back and forth with inscrutable A2P 10DLC rejections, which at this point feel more like rejection quota roulette than reasons.

Getting agreement on KPIs drives me up the wall because of the pressure to present simple-looking statistics that tremendously mislead, because to more accurately represent reality would be to define/measure statistics that require context to interpret.

“Run more buses” is almost always the first answer to making transit better in the US and Canada. Many don’t want to hear it because of the appeal of trains (and that buses aren’t capex projects), but it’s true. Ability to just show up, and transfers not breaking trips, does wonders.

thing is, bus speeds between LA & toronto are comparable. not dismissing speed issues, but the biggest delta between TO & LA is frequency (+integration) of bus+rail. lowering bus wait times region-wide is still the best bang-for-your-buck transit investment out there with quick results. 1/

Which is the worst desk chair: IKEA folding chair or target camping chair?

Fable feels like what I'd expect from an Opus 4.10 so far - definitely a big step up in large contexts with a lot of noise, but the cost is dubious for something that is still liable to run amok burning tokens on a bad path.

The SFMTA puts the trans in transit. @sfmta.com

The California Coastal Commission is frequently guilty of nimbying and catering to rich coastal homeowners, but the base fact that everyone has the legal right to enjoy and access California’s coastline is massive.

Faine Greenwood

Is it time for another one of my Californian rants about how batshit insane it is that so much of the East Coast’s beaches are heavily controlled + privatized for the benefit of loathsome rich coastal property owners?

I was watching a video where the speaker argued that there’s no modern change/trend being homes having too much junk and clutter. It felt increasingly unanalytic for how much research had gone into the specifics... then concluded with a confession that the video was born from a cleaning breakdown.
