Nope. I don’t accept this position — that we are powerless to change the outcome of this mess. We have a small, time-critical window where we can collectively navigate through this. Also don’t forget, these are commercial entities that are selling products/services that are subject to laws.

Sadly it's not just #JodrellBank losing funding, with deep cuts across the board for UK astronomy. One example is the HiPERCAM project whose funding has been entirely cut to save £50K/yr - peanut-levels of £s. Spectacular fast transient science lost, for what? 🔭😡 www.zmescience.com/science/astr...

Private companies could ruin the night sky for the entire world, and international law can't stop themThe U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) can single-handedly approve space projects that will change the night sky around the world.

"@wired.com wrote about Reflect Orbital's giant mirror in September 2024, when the project was still in its early stages. Two years later, the Trump administration has given the green light to this provider of 'on-demand' sunlight." www.wired.com/story/reflec... #Space #SpaceEnvironment

Whoa, over a quarter million people (so far!) have left a comment on the egrgious openly fascist takeover attempt of the OMB. You can too! @standupforscience.net has instructions and everything you need. It's not hard, and it's critically important to science. fight2win.standupforscience.net

Nos roban el cielo. España es un país donde la investigación astronómica es puntera a nivel mundial y nos lo quieren robar. @lamoncloa.gob.es

This giant mirror will be as bright at Venus even if it is not pointing at you, and 6 times brighter than the Moon if it does. And it is just the beginning. The plan of Reflect Orbital is to deploy thousands of them. "Sunlight as a service" Goodbye, dark sky. www.pcmag.com/news/fcc-app...
