You can't paint black thermal blackbody infrared radiation, nor unintended radio emissions. Unfortunately, it does not work.

Just because there are challenges in trying to police Earth’s orbit, doesn’t mean it can’t be treated like a global commons. And sure, maybe many countries won’t sign into an “Earth orbit treaty”. Then, the UN can apply pressures at the global level to deal with that. We can’t just give up.

There was a time when no international laws existed about the production and release of CFCs into the atmosphere. Then, scientists, experts and activists brought an excellent case forward, the United Nations listened and The Montreal Protocol was made. We’re not here to just roll over and give up.

Nope. I don’t accept this position — that we are powerless to change the outcome of this mess. We have a small, time-critical window where we can collectively navigate through this. Also don’t forget, these are commercial entities that are selling products/services that are subject to laws.

Sadly it's not just #JodrellBank losing funding, with deep cuts across the board for UK astronomy. One example is the HiPERCAM project whose funding has been entirely cut to save £50K/yr - peanut-levels of £s. Spectacular fast transient science lost, for what? 🔭😡 www.zmescience.com/science/astr...

I'm a little bit obsessed with this cable on Perseverance. In a landscape painted a million different hues & shades of red, brown & sepia, this is one of the only flashes of such beautiful, pure blue for many thousands of miles... Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/S Atkinson

Whoa, over a quarter million people (so far!) have left a comment on the egrgious openly fascist takeover attempt of the OMB. You can too! @standupforscience.net has instructions and everything you need. It's not hard, and it's critically important to science. fight2win.standupforscience.net

SpaceX have filed for a 100,00 satellite "Gen3 NGSO" system. Presumably Starlink Gen3, but they don't call it that. The sats are 2000-2500 kg, area 300 to 400 sq m. Orbits 320-480 km at various inclinations. Have added to my page at www.planet4589.org/space/con/co...

Alejandro S. BorlaffThis giant mirror will be as bright at Venus even if it is not pointing at you, and 6 times brighter than the Moon if it does. And it is just the beginning. The plan of Reflect Orbital is to deploy thousands of them. "Sunlight as a service" Goodbye, dark sky. www.pcmag.com/news/fcc-app...

Meredith RawlsHave I mentioned recently that you can join SatHub at the IAU Centre for the Protection of the Dark and Quiet Sky? We absolutely need your help: cps.iau.org (Regrettably not on BlueSky, but we are on LinkedIn, and the bad place, because, you know, guess where all the sat bros hang out) 🔭
