If the Jones Act was never adopted, urbanization would not have been limited to deep water seaports. River ports would have grown at similar rate after 1920. St. Louis would be one of the biggest cities in the world. West Virginia would have remained a major manufacturing hub.

Quite possibly the most needlessly self-destructive law the US adopted in the 20th Century.
Katherine Alejandra CrossFinally, there's the question of the Jones Act. Section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920. If you're Alaskan or Hawaiian, you're also probably familiar with the fuckery it's caused. For Puerto Rico, the stakes are even higher.

reminder that in 2028, the media will try to sell Americans that JD Vance was "Israel-skeptic" and opposed to the Iran War and that the Democratic nominee (whoever they wind up being) is pro-Israel and pro-Iran War. Just saying it now so you remember this when it happens:
Leah McElrathPrime Minister Netanyahu of Israel is now meeting with Trump at the White House. The meeting is closed to the press, but the PM’s office released photos.
If they are capable of rowing against public opinion like this in order to defend Netanyahu and a far-right perspective on US-Israel relations why do they not extend the same for, say, defense of Americans' rights or for the Constitution and Democracy? (its because they do not believe in those)
