My favorite part of the Odyssey was when Odysseus turned to the screen and said "our age of $5 footlongs is collapsing because of greedflation"

Caveat that EW knows more than me in every way about this subject, but I figure if you want a story told from the perspective of O's victims, you can either go with the myriad revisionist stories from the perspective of the women he came across (Circe, Calypso, Helen) or just adapt The Trojan Women.
Critically, this works only if you accept the framing of Helen's nonconsensual kidnapping. The original framing is usually more of an elopement. That she is the collective property of the Greek lords (without agency) does not really work with a more modern notion of collective defense.
Lindsay BeyersteinThe Trojan War was collective defense by the Greeks. All the Greek lords agreed that they'd fight to get Helen back if anyone kidnapped her.
I have it on good authority that with enough money and drive, anyone can maintain their youthful coolness against the terrifying forces of time and decay. You Just Gotta Want It Enough.
Excellent articulation of why I found Disclosure Day both trite and frustrating. It demanded a kind of reverence in the awesome power of divine and trans-terrestrial empathy, while showing very little it on-screen. The Odyssey shows you the hell we've made, and our inability to fix it anytime soon.
Caroline SiedeSometimes you put Disclosure Day and The Odyssey in conversation and it suddenly occurs to you that Nolan *must* have been raised Catholic (he was!) and it unlocks his whole filmography for you. On that and so much more for Decoding Everything

NEW, from me: Today, nearly 1000 workers at Mount Nittany Medical Center in central PA have walked off the job on a 5-day strike. The nearly wall-to-wall union (somewhat rare in healthcare these days) has been in the midst of negotiations for months. Their contract expired July 1.
If you go in with your eyes open, and overlook some of Nolan's more glaring deficiencies (inability to write women characters and penchant for just not having them take center stage in his stories, as an example), I don't know how you can't have at least a good time at the theater for a Nolan flick.
God I wish this were true, but in actuality what happened is the median Odyssey watcher went home to Google what "peoples of the sea" meant and were completely unperturbed by the "Age of Bronze" line. They liked it when Matt Damon went 13th century BCE John Wick tho.
lorem ipsum 🇧🇷🇺🇸I'm sorry but you nerds are going to have to get over this. It's 2026, of course he was going to put the term "sea peoples" in there, he knew it would make the audience clap like seals. This expecting someone making a film about 18th century BC Ur to not mention Ea-nāṣir.
