For the better part of a year, I've been looking into the night LaGuardia Airport was bombed. I'd appreciate it if you'd give it a read. slate.com/news-and-pol...

I've read about all manner of atrocity, but even so, the violence of this bombing floored me. slate.com/news-and-pol...

It’s a terrific piece, but no surprise there.

I'm about halfway through this piece now. My stomach is in knots! My husband grew up right next to LAG. Kids like them, in the 70s, used to ride their bikes to the airport and go in to hang out in the air conditioning in the summer. Just a different world. I'm diving back in...

Recently I read Michael Cannell’s book “Incendiary” about the “mad bomber” in NY in the ‘50s. Absolutely fascinating. I’m 64, have lived in and around NYC all my life, and had no idea about the LGA bombing. Thanks for your article.

when I read about NYC things like this and the Park Slope mid-air plane crash in 1960 (128 fatalities) I’m always like how do we not hear about these more often? for the record, I had never heard of this LaGuardia bombing and I was alive *and* lived within the NYC news media verse in 1975. amazing

LaGuardia was what now? Oh, you bet I’m reading this.

all i saw at first was the post but not who posted it and i said, that sounds like an elon story. definitely going to read this

Elon - this is a great piece! I was 10 at the time and I don't remember the bombing, but this was right around the time that I was becoming generally aware of domestic terrorism and the escalation in hijacking. I do remember the general sense that nobody really knew how to address the problem.

Tremendous work, as usual, Elon.

If you insist. I do love me some cold cases...

Lovely piece! Thank you for writing it! Grateful for your centering of the victims.

Crime novelist Andrew Vachss borrows from this, with a hitman character who takes out his target with a "terrorist" bomb at LaGuardia, so the cops can't tell the real motive. The dead Innocents are collateral.

Good stuff, and worth a read.

I consider myself a big NYC history nerd, and had never heard of this! Really speaks to how memory-holed it has been -- thanks so much for writing and sharing!

Such a great piece. Absolutely fascinating and well-written.

oh hell yeah, it lives!

BTW I emailed this to my dad, he was living in the Bronx then and has a memory like a steel trap and he didn't remember it either.
