About a month ago, my partner & I went to the drive-in (I didn't know these still existed and it's a favorite part of living on this coast now)
We were planning on seeing a double feature: Disclosure Day and Backrooms.
Unfortunately, we were tired (I was still recovering from concrud,) so we didn't stay for Backrooms showing at midnight.
We're finally watching it on streaming. It's got kind of middling ratings on various sites, but it seems to be *the* horror movie of the summer.
I'm impressed with the cast.
I'm just live-posting watching this movie now.
But I'm reminded of the most scared I ever was in a haunted house as a kid with this movie. It created an on-going type of nightmare for me.
The scenes of crawling through small doors. I still get nightmares where I have to crawl through really small hallways and doors. I was always a little claustrophobic.
Let me tell you a story about what happened when I was 12ish and my aunt took a bunch of cousins to a haunted house.
As a kid, I didn't scare easily. Though you can get a good jump scare out of me nowadays.
As such, I was out in front of the group going through this haunted house. I loved it! Super fun.
And then we had to crawl through a space that went up and over and down - outside I'd seen this bridge connecting 2 buildings.
It was pitch black in that crawl space. And there was someone at the bottom rattling chains and making scary noises.
That got me. I refused to slide down the slide
With the press of the entire dozen people or so expecting to move forward through the haunted house, and I was doing my best to stay at the top of the slide and screaming that I was not going down.
The strangers in the group were not impressed that this kid was holding things up.
But all's well. The teenager at the bottom of the slide that did all the scaring had the lights up in the room and when I came down - screaming my head off btw - he helped me out and said, "That's the exit right there. Just go to the exit." pointing to the other end of the room.
