Some news: tomorrow at 9am, Ted Koppel + CBS Sunday Morning will air a two-part story on the devastating surge of full-time workers being pushed into homelessness. I'll be interviewed along with two families from There Is No Place for Us. It would mean a lot if you'd watch and help spread the word.

Perhaps you could point out to the C-suite there at CBS that they are part of the problem. Ask them to share their total compensation and ask them if they know the lowest income paid by the corporation. Ask them how many of their own employees don't make a living wage.

Will be watching and taking notes

Well I turned my tv off November 2024 to legacy tv but for you I will watch to give you my Nielsen rating but when it’s over I’m turning it back away only to return for a REAL report upon request!

Sorry, not watching CBS.

M

I’ll try to look for this on YouTube tomorrow and buy your book. These things are important. I have a book called Rough Sleepers by Tracy Kidder, don’t know if you came across that one.

You couldn’t pay me to watch CBS News. Move to a different network.

The timing feels especially critical: this week the Trump administration moved to gut permanent housing programs nationwide. As the safety net is torn apart and the affordability crisis deepens, this report shows what's at stake for millions of people.

Here's how the segment is being described:

I'm deeply grateful to Celeste, Maurice, and Natalia for sharing their lives on camera. These realities—jobs that don't pay the rent, families trapped in extended-stays—rarely get this kind of coverage. I hope it helps propel these issues into the national conversation, where they urgently belong.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Thank you for your work. I live in Chicago. This problem is heartbreaking.

Since a number of people have asked: the show airs live at 9am ET, but once it's broadcast it will also be available online within a couple of hours. I'll share the link as soon as it's up.

CBS is complicit with why this is happening 🙄😽

Just got off the phone with Celeste, Maurice, and Natalia—none of us slept last night! Lots of nerves over here, but also a lot of hope.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Congrats to you all, and thanks for the courage and resilience

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Bless you and Mr. Koppel for bringing such light to homelessness and the monetization of their suffering. And bless each of those who were interviewed. What a corrupt business, to use their desperation and capitalize on their pain for profit. Thank you for the work you're doing.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

I appreciated that the segments gave space for people to tell their own stories. You know how sometimes in our business we see ourselves as "intercessors," which can be pretty patronizing (and I'm sure I've done it myself)

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

So happy @cbsnews.com profiled these families, you and your book this morning!!!

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Just watched live. This story is moving, and scary, and enraging.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Thanks for raising this here. I hope we can spread the word further.

Ответ для Ann Oliva

Thank *you* for your crucial work and voice, Ann

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Thank you for all the work and advocacy you do. A place to be is a fundamental human need and there are solutions where there is a will to help. I hope people are moved to action after watching.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

I wonder if CBS will mention the gutting of the program?

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

I have a very small following, but I’m happy to help

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

$7.25/hour * 40 hours * 4 weeks = $1,160. Average rent in the US is $1,650. You need to work overtime to keep a roof over your head. You need overtime and roommates if you want a roof over your head AND food. Need medical care? 😂 Good luck.

Ответ для Chris Pesci

I think these stories about working full time and being homeless are more common than people realize. (Source: was homeless and working full time for two years)

Ответ для Chris Pesci

In addition to dumbing down, it’s by design that a good portion of people are overworked and still struggling to meet basic needs, thus apathy to voting/politics, while uber riches swoop in and rob us while we are down.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

i was living in my car for a year while working full time. i showered at truck stops. during covid. in winter. death awaits the homeless. death and despair. because this is a republican america now.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Absolutely disgusting

Sorry Brian, I'm sure your cause is just; but we stopped watching CBS altogether when they caved to you-know-who.

Ответ для figmo

I completely understand

Ответ для figmo

Maybe if ratings spiked on this segment it would send a message. I’m all for these boycotts.

It’s a disgrace that the billionaires are tripling their wealth while Americans are homeless and hungry!

Ответ для IrmaM

And a disgrace that we have a cruel and fumbling government that makes life more difficult for average people.

Ответ для Youngbloods 🇺🇸

It’s a government intentionally feeding their greed by profiting off our misery.

When those who work full-time cannot secure shelter, it is a profound failure of society to honor the dignity and worth of every person.Every story spread, every awareness raised, strengthens the possibility that no one need endure such hardship alone.

Ответ для The33rd

And, most importantly, that WE are moved to DEMAND policy that refuses this failure, policy that DEMANDS solutions that provide all with human dignity, human rights, human well-being.

Btw when did koppel go to cbs. ? I has seen him a few times over the years comment negatively on the media ( rightfully so) and had thought he had retired. Miss him and bill moyers as well as most of the old guys Gen x grew up on

Really glad you and the families in your book will have this platform. Your work is so incredibly important.

Ответ для danilynrutherford

🙏🏼❤️

Just watched. Such important work you’ve been doing!

Surprised that (now fascist-leaning) CBS will broadcast something like this.

sorry gave up on compromised @cbsnews.com sadly they have become a part of the goverment sponsored propaganda enabling their BS

I know somebody making 6 figures, cannot get into a home... this is a sad economy

Ответ для karen5219

Sounds like the housing market in the area is ludicrous.

Ted Koppel and Sunday Morning are both very great favorites of mine and have been for years. I watched Mr. Koppel nightly during the Iranian Hostage Crisis and then Sunday morning when MT. St. Helen’s erupted. Seeing him on CBS Sunday Morning is wonderful!

The "Affordability Hoax" is gonna get very real for Mango Mussolini and his party of nincompoops at the ballot box next November.

Is that eastern or central time?

Ответ для Joan Elliott

9am ET - but the segment will be posted on their website and youtube by midday

Sorry Brian but CBS lost it's credibility when it decided to scrape up it's knees to appease fascism.

It’s how the greedy rich make money on buying up their property for pennies on the dollar under the foreclosures.

Boost this! A very important topic not getting enough attention

Ответ для Leigh

I'll be watching

vs epstein email revalations fuck cbs

Fuck CBS Fuck everything Ellison forever. Burn the oligarchy down

My household has been homeless for 6 months now. The inflexible demands of earning at least 3x the listed rent mean we're rejected as potential tenants for places with rents much lower than the cost of the extended-stay where we're currently residing. It's maddening.

Ответ для cloudyteacozy

So very sorry. This is so cruel.

ET?

I'll watch, but if CBS really cared, they would've given the 16 million dollars that they gave to Trump to the homeless crisis.

Recording it

That's almost every brown immigrant right now..... Just saying....

I watch CBS Sunday Morning every Sunday.

This story made me cry. I grew up poor and what these people went through are reminiscent of what my family and others around me went through. What I worry now is, with the terrible job market we have right now and rising inflation, we’re going to see more stories like these start to emerge.

Many family members will need to live together again just to survive!

Fuck all CBS. Move to an independent outlet & then I’ll watch.

👏

These stories are … I keep flipping between fury that this happens to people and absolute awe at the power and tenacity of these women who just keep trying.

That is great Brian. Your book and it's message need to be heard. Didn't know Koppel was at CBS. Assumed he'd retired.

Ответ для Bill Becker

🙏❤️

Heartbreaking that so many find themselves trapped in this cycle.

Ted Koppel is the OG. I will watch.

What is cbs?

Ответ для Blame █ █ █ █ █ Voters 🌊🌊🌊

Ya.. appreciate the content and effort for the piece but I just can't seriously support the network

Im surprised Weiss will let it be aired. We’ll tune in.

The trump admin has also talked about institutionalizing homeless people. So first they cause your homelessness and then throw you into an institution. Worse than the Great Depression.

Ответ для Youngbloods 🇺🇸

Next up working in the fields I’m guessing. Cruelty & shoving money into their own pockets appear to be this administration’s only goal

Ответ для Youngbloods 🇺🇸

They want free labor

Ответ для Leigh

aka slavery. Hey, it’s in the Bible. St. Paul approved, and tells slaves to obey their masters.

Wish it were any network not CBS

Thank you for continuing and expanding on the work done by Barbara Ehrenreich. Her books esp “Nickel and Dimed” helped many to understand why overcoming poverty is so rarely achieved.

Ответ для seenthia

She is sorely missed. Her work has meant everything to me.

Ответ для seenthia

That’s a really great book.

Ответ для seenthia

Her books helped me understand the plight of shift workers who can't plan out their personal lives because corporations change their shifts and days on a whim, all while those corporations rake in billions in profits for their leaders and forcing employees onto SNAP & extended stay hotels.

I volunteered at a homeless shelter and several tenants were working. For several reasons they couldn't get into a rental unit

Tax billionaires- who probably never shoulda been

Sunday Morning is the best show on regular TV, but will it remain so, can it remain so...

Ответ для Jill

It has been far from its best when they started letting Robert Costa do political coverage.

It’s crappy when there are no rules for large equity firms such and Blackstone and Elco when purchasing large amounts of affordable housing the renting it back to us. And now 50 year mortgage? 🤬🤬🤬

I don’t watch that channel anymore, but I’ll do it tomorrow for Ted Koppel.

The Mormons have touted the inability to survive on two income families as justification for polygamy.

Thanks to Donald Trump and his bullshit claim that the economy is booming. Unless, of course, it's not, in which case it's all Biden's fault and Trump inherited it.

This isn't NEW!!! Why did it take so long???

Wish I'd seen this before now, because it's after 10 a.m.

Ответ для Judy Z

You’re in luck. You have plenty of time to plan. Today is Saturday. The show, CBS News Sunday Morning, is on tomorrow.

Sure.

Feel free to report on the family who just got charges for a suicide pact that they tried to enact due to homelessness. Like they were going to be homeless so they tried to kill themselves, then called 911. Now they are in jail instead of getting a home or help.

Ответ для whirlwindhelp

Oh that’s just horrible and sadly believable. Do you know where I can find an article about this? Gosh it’s so heartbreaking. My family and I are a few checks from homelessness and most are. It’s frightening and especially so if you disabled children or family to look after.

Ответ для Dems4AL

Ответ для whirlwindhelp

Oh my gosh. The arrest just makes it so much worse for this family. They didn’t HAVE to bring up charges. They could’ve looked the other damn way or made it like an assault or something. Fkin FL. I hope this Trump regime will be on its knees soon. My heart cannot stand much more of the atrocities.

Set it to record-thanks! This is b/c of Reagan's tax rates we're stuck w/along w/stock buy backs. B4 stock buy backs-corporations had to invest in wages, insurance, upgrades, R & D to lower taxes-now they run companies into the ground-pull up stakes & get tax incentives for opening elsewhere.

Wow, Bari Weiss’s CBS, no less.

I wish this weren't on cbs - I would watch it otherwise. Maybe when it makes it to youtube on some non-cbs-affiliated channel.

Ответ для Cookie Vargas

I totally understand. Fwiw it will be posted on youtube afterward

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

I'll look for it for sure! Thanks for heads up.

I just watched this story on CBS. I thank the families for sharing their stories.

Great segment. Thank you! Really appreciate your compassionate reporting and unique approach to shining a light on the ugly realities faced by America’s homeless.

I guess I’ll put a pause on my ongoing boycott of CBS news programming this weekend. Gee, I hope you are able to be blatantly honest, so much so that Trump sues them again; and this time, they will hopefully stand their ground. Nah, too many Whitehouse deals yet to be made.

We will be watching. And working to bring housing to those in need in our area.

Will do !

75 year mortgages!!!

Does it include the people at CBS News who were pushed out by the vile Bari Weiss?

Good question

So glad to see this. This is a very important topic and it's not getting enough attention.

Great segment. Heartbreaking. Hope this humanizes these people that place blame. Is there a go fund me?

Many Americans are a single paycheck away from homelessness. The Administration is doing nothing for working people.

trump has new digs for them in Utah. Ugh, everything is horrible.

Can you advise on how to best help families like these?

#TrumpHomeless #TrumpBreadLines #TrumpInflation #TrumpShitShow

Not watching CBS Sunday Morning since Ellisons purchased it.

Ответ для Kim Noreen

Ditto

Ответ для Kim Noreen

I understand completely. But I'm grateful they're willing to cover this much neglected crisis.

Ответ для Brian Goldstone

Thank you for sharing! Fingers crossed the editing and other interviews conducted don't drift into dehumanization/criminalizing rhetoric as far too many televised programs across major networks will do.

Ответ для Kim Noreen

It used to be a never miss for me 🫤 I'll watch the segment on YouTube.

Ответ для Kim Noreen

Same.

Thank you for raising awareness about this issue. I worked in a shelter setting with homeless families for many years. Indeed, some folks worked full time but couldn’t afford to keep a roof over their head.

When your funders and those that write the actual NOFO (Cicero Institute) are to benefit from private jails and for profit institutions- you wonder why. Of course they will probably also benefit from rental housing that will undoubtedly fail due to these cuts.

This was an absolutely powerful and heart breaking piece. A must watch.

Are they really going to let it air though? It goes against everything the new owner/operator of CBS believes. I hope it does because it’s criminal what corporations, including CBS, does to employees.

Also, the Social Security group is losing homes to taxes and insurance.

I read your book a couple of months ago. I highly recommend it. The story of those families are heartbreaking and eye opening.

Ответ для ExcitingHealth

Thank you so much.

I take ANYTHING that CBS does now with a very fine grain of salt.

I have it set to record

How's Bari Weiss? As long as CBS is owned by fascists, I'm not watching

CBS, umm no.

…lately the only Sunday morning show ever worth anyone’s time.

I hope Bari Weiss lets it run.

Yeah, no, if you want me to watch something, CBS is definitely NOT the outlet to choose to get your message out. Try independent media, then you’ll get my attention.

No one is really happy with CBS right now!
