I briefly lived in Wales and the colliery brass bands were a revelation to me. Sometimes theys do covers at shows with vocals and it was unreal. By the way - ‘Brassed Off’ is a great film if you haven’t seen it before.

I was completely blown away by hearing a brass band cover of the James Blake song 'Retrograde' at a folk festival many years back. Absolutely blew the roof off. I've never been able to find a version as good online - you kinda had to be there, I guess.

Went to Eindhoven and it coincided with their national day. Was brilliant, given food and drink in the town square and when it was over the people we met took us to a nightclub. Standard stuff but then a full brass band came in and started playing rock covers. Don’t sleep on the horns!

VGPS is my fave album ever, it was a great day when this performance was rediscovered. I really like early '70s Kinks with the Mike Cotton Sound, and I generally don't like horn rock.
