I went to Gemini before I saw this particular thread. Initially it was corporate bullshit, but after I followed up it said Google was rolling back this feature and I even got it to agree renaming the Gulf of America was a bad move.

The incentive, if you work at one of these tech companies is to go balls deep on AI. If you add AI features to your product you will get promoted, you will get recognized you will get paid more. On the flip side if you don't do enough AI you get canned so the company can buy more GPUs.

That would also make it useless for people who were just using it to measure things - lots of engineers would have to go back to ordering their own aerials to ensure the images weren’t tampered with.
