as an animator i can't stress enough how important it is to take breaks and do activities that DON'T involve drawing read a book, watch a movie, play a game, learn how to knitt. you'd be surprised how quickly your creative juices get replenished by just enjoying yourselves

Likewise, the longer you put off letting yourself relax, the longer it takes to restore that creative spark. Currently living through that mess myself.

I’ve been trying to get better at that this year and it’s done wonders for my animating motivation.

I just finished filling out my dream Namco Museum collection via the ACA ports. I’m playing them as a study for a fan initiative I’m hoping to get off the ground.

Heavily agreed with this amazing point. Spent WAY too much of my 20's just pouring myself into art and it ended up making quite the negative effect causing my 30's burn-out. A side-hobby or just watching a moving is heavily needed. Just taking that needed break does wonders. <3

Get... out... the... house... Really, cabin fever is perfect for killing a good mood or an artistic streak. While in cities, check shops: art, books, Army surplus, toys,... I stop at large truck stops on the road (some cool stuff); Quartzsite is a great little stop on the California/Arizona border

I think there is such a thing as "project type fatigue", kinda like tunnel vision, where you do the same thing over and over it becomes rote and routine AND you start liking it less. Don't have a catchy phrase for it though.

And yet, my family judges me that I "don't have a hobby" Because appereantely, if hobby doesn't involve other people (them or my real life friends) it's not a "hobby"

As someone who plays DMC V or any fighting game in-between working on videos and animations this is 100% correct

Can attest to this. I’ve had moment were I wouldn’t draw for months at a time and did other things besides drawing. I definitely noticed a lot of improvement on my end after those periods. Plus it’s helped prevent sever burnout

I had to learn this the hard way a few weeks ago when I got so burnt out that I physically felt like I couldn’t draw and I saw a dip in the quality of my art because I spent every single day drawing and working on big projects.

Also good for your physical health

Spend 900 days working on a wiki for your favorite series/videogames helps too :3

Great ideas happen in the shower or doing chores like laundry too!

This applies to any artform your passionate about, honestly. If your a writer, take a break from writing. If your a singer, take a break from singing, etc etc. It really helps to be a well rounded person so you don't burn out on the thing you love most.
