Everyone hates ICE.

But how does the issue fly in *Maine*? A lot of regional variation on it.

One of the many reasons Democratic voters are disgusted and done with Democratic leadership.

There should be a relentless focus on the concentration camps, the cruelty of (for example) sending Central Americans to Africa, traumatizing children, sending deportees to prisons far from home to separate them from family and legal help, the vast profits of the private prisons. 1/2

Dems are not going to win until they clear out a generation or two of strategy and comms consultants. These folks are stuck in a world that no longer exists--they're like the balding 40-YO still wearing his letterman jacket.

"Too little, too late" While Collins played "concerned" and Trump took naps between ballroom planning she funded ICE that killed Americans and harassed everyone. That's easy to sell because it's the basic truth.

Mikie Sherrill seems to have got the message after her blowout win. Wouldn't say 'immigrant" throughout the campaign. Now publicly resisting ICE.

Putting aside immigration itself, it's hopelessly naive to say don't campaign on X bc it's the opposition's issue. Ignoring it doesn't make it go away; it just concedes that the GOP is "correct" on it. We need to campaign hard on everything that's seen as a GOP issue.

Personally, I think Dems need to laser focus on just a few items that they feel are the most pressing I’m not saying I’ve found the secret sauce, but my top 3 concerns are: 1/. Ripping up the idea that the president must be under the rule of law. 2/. That a republic relies ……

And it turns the immense amount of harm caused by the Trump administration into a talking point, not a human catastrophe. It is unacceptable to only view people’s lives through the lens of a political calculus.

Dems have a bad habit of trying to win the previous election instead of the upcoming one. They also have a bad habit of trying to win midterms as if they are generals, and trying to win as incumbents when they are challengers. Unfortunately all 3 are converging on 2026, yet they may win anyway.

Don't assume ignorance/incompetence. Anyone advising Dems to not attack the GOP on ICE and mass deportations is likely doing so because they support ICE and mass deportations.

Shor and Yglesias have wreaked havoc on the pundit class with their popularist immigration nonsense. Yglesias's heel turn from One Billion Americans is something else.

Here's an idea. The 1787 text & the Framers' original intent shows immigration statutes lack constitutional validity. The People, as the sole sovereigns, never delegated border-closing powers to Congress. The United States had open borders until 1882.

What specific Dems should campaign on varies quite a bit from place to place, but overall campaigning against masked, dystopian sci fi-resembling agents who either kill you in the street without accountability or whisk you off to concentration camps without due process seems like a no-brainer to me.

Immigration is 2 separate issues dude. Of course it's okay to attack ICE abuses but embracing Biden style border policies is not favorable in most of the country. This is an old issue that's been debated endlessly regardless of what you claim to read into your latest poll.

Amen! To not draw a line and saying this is completely unacceptable, illegal, and just plain wrong is stupidity. This wishy washy nonsense is why people don’t trust Dems to actually follow through on their promises. Not a backbone in the bunch! No guts just puréed weakness instead of strength.

I don't have numbers, but at this point, most Americans likely have some family member, perhaps through marriage, who is an immigrant. Lacking that, then a neighbor, teacher, health care professional who brings the topic of ICE into a sharp relief.

I'm not even sure what a moderate is anymore but I'm an ex Republican who wants to dismantle DHS and put stuff where it was before 9/11. We can keep TSA and stick it in DOT.
