I used to take a bus a private coach line from Northwest Indiana to Chicago airport when I was in college. As I've driven through Chicago land on road trips now some areas looked familiar and i knew this was why, but I didn't know where the different bus stops were. /1

Without knowing the name of the bus line, I asked technology and it got me the route and the bus stops. It's small, but still amazing how easy that was.

I've been experimenting/learning more this past year. I highly recommend the cooking videos from Jacques Pepin and Alton Brown. Both have tons of stuff on YT and have a good mix of recipes per se and various tips/techniques that are generalizable. Both are also just entertaining in their own ways.

It is also to help boost time read on the site, which boosts ad revenue, and bumps up the word count, which was a key metric for google 5-10 years ago. Having less than 250 words on the page was a big no no for SEO.

Oh, likewise. I like to think that I'm an ok cook, but at some point (I think my apartment kitchens shrunk too much) I pretty much gave up on complicated cooking (if it doesn't fit on an inherited index card, probably not doing it)

My mother passed away in 2020 from Alzheimers. Years before we knew she had it she hand wrote her marinade recipe for dehydrator beef jerky on a piece of notebook paper for me. That paper is folded in the recipe box complete with soy and Worcestershire sauce stains (from me) but it is precious.

I think it's pretty funny that we all have these greasy, faded index cards stored in an old cookie tin that are 99% of the time just transcribed copies of recipes off the back of a bag of Hershey kisses from the 60s or 70s 😂

My mother maintained the "family secret" recipe for her potato salad for some 20 years until I finally pried it out of her that it was just the original hellmans recipe that she got from her dad. Many such stories of fooling the church crowd by using box cake but making your own frosting too😂

Yeah it works best on stuff you already know but have forgotten. At least then you can filter out the bits you know are absolutely incorrect. Otherwise, you can get some wildly wrong results that you might not even realize are wrong.
