I grew up in Troy. Have been to Ithaca. This is hyper-locally hilarious to me.

That drive is about how long the movie is. Coincidence, I’m sure.

So I had to look this up and the distance from Troy to Ithaca is about 1000km (along the coast, not 'as the harpy flies') which would be about a week's travel by boat, more or less. (Assuming 7km/hr speed, which is in the middle of the range I found for 'bronze age sailing speed'.)

I'm from Albany. My friend's brother planned a road trip through Upstate NY, in which he recreated the travelogue of the Iliad, Odyssey & Aeneid.

The issue is he didn't have the money for the toll roads so it was way longer

Lol this person thinks Odysseus took the highway! He was on a boat, so he had to go from Troy down the Hudson and then back the other via the St Lawrence into Lake Ontario to reach Ithaca. Duh.

Even before the movie, I have wondered why he went through SO MUCH to get back to Troy. Frequently had to go there as a kid to visit family. That place is fucking purgatory, but with more rats.
