I don't know films. Not my training. The Odyssey may be an amazing film. I couldn't tell you. But I do know the text. And I know Wilson's bona fides in this arena. So I take what she says about how the film portrays the themes of the text seriously. But not what she says about the film as a film.

This is why I appreciate folks who have a film background. I don't have the vocabulary or the training to take a movie *as a movie* I can kinda appreciate technique (I'm a sucker for Laika films) but I have trouble separating the film from the story because story is all I know.

I hate feeling so cynical, but seeing how a company (maybe not certain people in it) does not care about its community, has given me many "I'm good" moments this past year. I don't care about secret lairs and act like UB doesn't exist if it doesn't vibe. I can still play cube and EDH with my friends

I'm looking forward to seeing The Odyssey (not the $30 Imax ticket price mind you!) because my degree is in the humanities and my focus was translation studies so my estimation of the film will come from how it is in dialog with the original text and how that is translated for a modern audience.
