It was the embodiment of wondrous science throughout my childhood, benignly dominating the landscape around my (scientist) mother’s childhood home, where we sometimes lived too. Those low hills had Alan Garner & Jodrell Bank — a land infused with the two kinds of magic we grew up believing in.

When I was eight years old, our school trip was Tatton Hall and Jodrell Bank. They didn't let kids in to see JB in those days. My principal memory was feeling sick on the bus. It was fifty-nine years ago.

Jodrell Bank telescope was opened when I was a child I lived in Manchester and went with my school class to see it I understand it is still very much in use and kept updated Shutting it down seems a backwards step especially when the president of the USA is getting rid of scientific institutions

Flew out to Poland last Monday, saw this clear as fast as plane climbed out of Manchester. Was a thrill.

Absolutely horrified they've lost their main funding from the 'government'. It's such an important side in the research of astrophysics and radio astronomy. I went on a visit with cubs in 1967 & bought 'The Night Sky' ladybird book which began my lifelong interest in astronomy #jodrellbank

Very sad to think Jodrell bank is under threat. The UK seems addicted to acts of self harm,
