In Brazil the standard and widely considered correct way to indicate dialogue is em dashes. When I started reading more books in English and decided I preferred using quotations marks I was constantly told that it was confusing and incorrect to do that when writing in Portuguese. So yeah.
Samhain 🦊One aspect I never see discussed is that different languages have different rules. Non-native English speakers might write in ways that look suspicious (em dash, when and where to use a comma or space, structure itself) but are just them applying the rules they grew up with!
