I think I've said this before, but if someone had tried to pull this on a flight I was working back in the day, they'd get one warning and if they didn't stop, I'd call the captain and Homeland Security would be waiting to take them away when we landed.

Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...

I am genuinely surprised that anyone got away with this even one time

It's mind-boggling. Creating a disturbance in flight like that is the kind of thing that can and should come with serious, *federal* consequences. I don't understand why crews are letting them get away with it

Is there a possibility it’s all fake? I find it hard to believe this happened. Air crews are typically very quick to stop antisocial behaviour

I mean, it's definitely happened in the past and been reported on by legitimate outlets, so no reason to assume this instance is fake. But from what I've seen, passengers are behaving much worse and flight crews are tolerating way more than we would have back when I was a flight attendant

Serious Q: do you think the Supreme Court would uphold her behavior?

They might try, but it would set a *bad* precedent, because the legal issue wouldn't be that she was preaching on the plane, but rather that she refused a crew member instruction when told to stop. Flight crews basically have dictatorial power while in flight, and changing that will kill people

That person could try but I doubt that even this SCOTUS would overturn aviation law on 1A grounds, the airlines should just enforce it

They desperately want to a faith martyr story they can star in as the hero on social media, and scapegoat whoever makes them knock it off. The White House, FAA, and DOJ are equally eager to make some flight attendant’s life hell for +1s in the right wing media.

And that’s why knowing ASL is great; cause it says their voice is falling on deaf ears…. Everyone in the plane can do some ASL just to demonstrate ………not listening!!

A solid reason why every flight should carry duct tape

We regularly end up with very early or very late flights. And I do believe if you tried this on the 5-hour midnight cross-country haul, meeting Homeland Security at the landing gate would be your *rescue*.

I know things aren't the same as they were in the years after 9/11, but even now people are not nearly afraid enough of the power a pissed-off flight crew has to ruin one's life.

I once watched a family be removed from a flight for disruptive yelling and cursing shortly after boarding, and all I could think was, “those folks have no idea what they’ve just done.”
