When my wife and I watched that movie for the first time, and got to the scene where the cops get overrun by zombies, I looked at her and said “All Cops Are Breakfast” and she barely spoke to me for the rest of the night.
I genuinely believe the best zombie movies are the ones who recognise the fundamental absurdity of their premise and roll with it. Zombie movies that try to play it entirely serious are never as good, they spend too much time apologising for and justifying themselves
It does make me curious though, for as much as Romero is celebrated for creating(and reinventing) the modern day zombie genre, I do have to wonder if he could’ve come up with an undead army as cartoonish yet nightmare inducing as Dan O’ Bannon did.
