It’s utterly insane that they don’t cover every square inch of those buildings with solar panels. The stupidity of the AI industry is appalling.

🤬

That's because they're stupid and brainwashed.

Shouldn't the whole roof be covered in solar panels?

Ответ для Pete Carrier CARRIER-media Ltd

Basically, though I’d say they should be forced to use onsite renewables as much as possible and fund their own power and water needs, use only air cooling, etc. we need national standards yesterday.

Ответ для Pete Carrier CARRIER-media Ltd

Yes, they should be required.

Ответ для Pete Carrier CARRIER-media Ltd

Good question!

Bizarre not funny at all MADNESS

Not to mention farmable land.

🤬

The towns who cannot fight these data centers must insist that the roofs are fitted with enough solar panels to power the beasts. WTF.

They should have enough solar panels and rainwater collection bins to exist so taxpayers don’t get screwed.

Those people are called morons 😱

Solar helps the entire population. Data centers help THEM.

Why in the world not put solar panels on top of all that?

Greed and hypocrisy appear to go hand in hand.

The cities blocking data centers have inspired Cleveland, Ohio to do the same! Yay Cleveland! www.wkyc.com/article/news...

City of Cleveland rejects permit for $1.6B data center in Slavic VillageCleveland Mayor Justin Bibb says the city rejected Lakeland Equity Group's permit for a $1.6 billion data center, citing concerns about its impact on neighborhoods.www.wkyc.com

They feel like uncontested invasions. They are suddenly appearing all over. It's not a coincidence. They demand ALL available power and water from surrounding areas, then tell the locals to pound sand. I'm tired of mega corporate bullying and being treated like we're annoying insects. Enough.

I just read some MAGAt whining on @sltrib.com about the solar panels messing up the vista of lovely alfalfa fields in rural Utah.

The lack of intelligence that is further reinforcing the travesty of power and greed will be another factor in the collapse of the human race.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬♾️

And the c**ts didn't even put solar panels on the roof of their data centres...

And the waste of resources that go along with them!!

If the local community is not benefiting sufficiently, and they are upset, they need to vote out their government and replace it with a new government that can rewrite the rules to make things fair and right . If there are energy price increases and water shortages do something about it.

Those data centers ought to have solar farms erected over the top of them to shade them and power them. Stop stealing power from neighborhoods and keep your centers cooler in the process. 😎 Better yet, build them on the poles of the moon and avoid the overheating issue entirely.

Isn’t it ironic these data centers do not have solar power ? Tons of roofs .. tech driven business and no foresight to include solar power ?

There’s loads of solar panel room on those roofs

Intel in Chandler Arizona has its own water treatment plant on-site. Pretty sure municipalities required it.

That water and power is usually on the taxpayer's dime too.

Great observation.

It is terrifying😢

Look at what that many solar panels could do on those giant roofs to offset some of the power required.

Nobody really needs AI. It's pushed by corporations to trim workforces and steal, then repackage intellectual property.

I can see US rednecks going Iranian on those AI data centres. They are nuts about their guns and drones.

I suspect that a Venn diagram would show not insignificant overlap between people who don't want solar panels covering farmland and people who don't want giant data centers covering farmland, tbh.

Which begs the question: Why aren't those data centres roofs covered in solar panel to help power them?

Ответ для Sir_LANs-a-lot

Increased demands on roof load, complications with roof access like HVAC. And the power output of such a small footprint is pretty tiny Parking lots are a better solar target

No human needs water. Didn't you hear? DonOld wants you dead.

Why not 50 times?

Ответ для Janeen123

Yep! I said the same before seeing your comment. 100%.

Using power generated off site while having acres of roof space for solar and the $ for mega batteries. It’d at least offset things.

We are already hurting for water and these use 300 times more than a city does. WHAT ARE WE DOING? DATA CENTERS WILL KILL US ALL! This is surveillance people, nothing more. The data is US, our lives, our health and finances. The tech bros have no care at all.

Fuck REPUBLIKANS for Data Centers and all their fucking hate.

Are there people like that?

@lazytato.bsky.social

Or the people complaining about the supposed federal $ consumed by “illegal” immigrants working and living among us have no problem spending undisclosed billions on prison camps where they cant work, are living on federal dime, and building expensive lawsuits against us for barbaric treatment. 🙄

So spot on!! Thanks Budd!

MANY solar fields are land grabs for data centers down the road. For example, Canada solar company goes to rural NY and BEFORE placing any panels they will switch up the LLC infrastructure a few times and often abandon the project altogether & you can't take these to a dump. But I see your point.

Please note that there is no parking lot at these sprawling data centers. Why? These data centers only need 1 or 2 techs to keep them running. So no boom to local businesses, no jobs for locals. Only destruction of natural resources and higher utility bills

Ответ для hikercat

They pay taxes

Ответ для Derek

No different than the previous land owner so its not an increase to revenue for the county nor does it cover the losses of water and increase to residential utility costs that utility companies already placed in anticipation of data centers.

Ответ для hikercat

Taxation varies, I haven't seen a deal yet that is 100% tax cut though Yes water and energy socialization are big fuckin deals we need to be managing. Sucking aquifers below replenishment rates for a data center is insane

Ответ для hikercat

And the tech companies SHOULD be paying for utilities, not taxpayers.

Ответ для Rosemary Sullivan

Theyre paying pennies on the dollar to consume "surplus" energy so that the supply can be lower than the demand and justify higher rates too.

Ответ для yaycup

Fuck them. This is getting me interested in getting solar panels so I can tell my local to eat shit and buy my surplus power. Push people around and they come together, not necessarily in a group, but with actions. And don't tell an American they can't do something, because they will out of spite.

Ответ для brainspasm

👆Solar panels are so cheap right now. We were saving for years to go solar. They are so cheap now, we now have a pallet of them in our garage. Hopefully we can afford to have system installed this summer.

Ответ для Rosemary Sullivan

Correct, they pass on the production costs to the public and keep the profits.

Ответ для hikercat

Eh, that's a bit low. I know a few people who work as "computer janitors" and it would be a team of 3-5 per shift per one of these blocks shown here. I used to observe the shift change at the rather camouflaged DC right next to my school. Still, it doesn't need a lot of people once it's built.

Ответ для hikercat

And those techs will probably be replaced by robots in about 5 to 10 years.

Ответ для hikercat

Not exactly a true statement here but hikercat makes the point that these data centers will need few people to operate .

Ответ для hikercat

Exactly, and the people applying for permission to build these centres make out they are going to generate jobs!

Ответ для hikercat

Good point!

Maybe they think data centers are important enough for that while solar panels are not? Just a thought. You try thinking too, you might even like it.

Like The Orange 🤡

To spy on us...

I think you’re wrong on the estimation of acres.

And huge buildings without the requirement to have solar panels and batteries to help power them. I bet they get a far better deal on electricity pricing than the household consumer does too.

The right to be a greedy pri*** is the only truly sacred right left in America.

Nailed it 🙌🏻

Instead of sucking energy from the existing grid, they should, at the very least, have solar panels on all of their buildings. The more energy they take, the more fossil fuels are burned to supply demand. They should not be able to be such huge drains on resources like water & sewage. Disgusting.

But they'll get easier access to AI summaries of websites, slop video propaganda and something to write their emails for them. No contest.

They are always hypocrites.

It’s almost like it was never about the views much less energy use at all.

I have a sick feeling that the day will soon come when the population will greatly regret not taking action in the here and now. That our water will be gone. That the Nazis will have all the backup Gestapo Army that they need to rid themselves of us. VERY SOON.

Windmills are pretty. Data centers are pretty ugly. Golf courses should be replaced with homeless shelters that have solar panels on every roof and windmills in every backyard. Ugly? Maybe. More useful? Very.

great.place

You seem to have no problem using the same data centers to spread your word.

So true. There is something so sidewise about this

Lots of roof square footage and not a solar panel anywhere to be seen.

And... why are the data centres not covered in solar panels?? 🫠

At least get solar panels on data centres

👍

The top 4 uses of AI data centers is: military, surveillance (on US citizens and foreign countries), crypto and number 4? Porn. Tell me again why we need all of these large data centers?

twll.me

IF data centers need be opened, then they must have solar panels to provide their own running energy!

Ответ для defeline

They should also be recycling the heat the servers produce. That heat could run some turbines.

Look at all that open roof space that we could put solar panels on so they could get some of their own power.

Ответ для Madame Defarge (AKA Vet_Grandma)

Would that be too “woke” for those assholes?

Ответ для carly

We should establish a rogue group of people around the country. They can go around at night and install panels on facilities. They'll never know. IF they don't want the power then we can use it in the populations that need it the most. Citizens!

I am certain that there will be a move to digital currency for every day use. These data centres are way to big and too many to handle what we are being told they are for … yet they can easily be repurposed for mining.

Ответ для realitycheck01

Most crypto doesn't use mining anymore. There's not a lot we actually need such dense compute for. Traditional data center operations mostly are about efficiency in terms of performance per watt and these things suck shit in that regard.

Ответ для Cobalt Enjoyer

Which begs the question … what is their real purpose?

Ответ для realitycheck01

Investor hype. Just like crypto itself. The real capitalism is the trillions we wasted along the way.

Data centers... do you know who consumes the most #water? Everyone who still insists on eating animals. USA: ~50 billion meat burgers per year ~1,600 meat burgers per second! 75–90 billion per year worldwide Water usage ~2,000–2,500 liters of water for ONE beef burger. Now do the math! #GoVegan

Excellent point. Maybe the real problem with renewable energy is that there is not enough money in it? Also not enough bribes and kickbacks.

It is almost like they just regurgitate whatever their corrupt "leader" tells them to regurgitate. When you get enough people to deny knowledge, trump happens.

Make a law that every inch of data center roof must be covered by solar panels with installation and maintenance paid by the data center.

Surveillance Centers!! That’s what they are!

They could put panels on the roof to mask their shame

I don’t get it. So climate change isn’t a thing people care about anymore? Why don’t journalists ask these tech ghouls about this?

I see no evidence to support the assertion made in the meme. To the contrary there has been story after story of localities (many in deep red Trump country) where citizens are speaking out loudly against these proposals.

Ответ для Atticus Finch (of Georgia)

It’s not talking about the citizens. It’s talking about the politicians who green lit the projects. Those same pols who say climate change is fake. People need to vote better. People need to vote.

Ответ для pamnapo

That makes even less sense. In the areas I am most familiar with it is precisely the politicians who were happy to push both solar farms and data centers. Local politicians are often approving data centers over the opposition of citizens. And, the meme itself makes no such assertion.

It’s called ignorance

Absofrickenlutely

Fun IT conservatives want Yech Bro power to control the people they don't like, rather than protect the environment.

You’re catching on

Not 'data centers;' 'mass surveillance centers.'

Data Centers destroy jobs. They destroy communities. They destroy the environment.

Same people screaming “oil forever” because “EV adaption will collapse the electrical grid“ seem very happy about A.I. data centres.

Even worse they decide not to use solar panels to help power them.

It’s less funny than tragic. Hypocrisy is their jam.

They only want to use modern technology if they can use it to drag us all back to the 1820s.

That’s brainwashing for you

Or private inhumane prisons for profit. Huge warehouses to detain innocent humans against their will with no due process.

They love control. Solar panels = less control. Data centers = Big Brother.

Easy target.

Seems like a lot of surface area on the tops of those buildings where one might install some solar panels to help offset the power requirements of those buildings.

With such consumption of resources that whole towns lose access to electricity!

Ответ для Terry

And most importantly water!!!

We should make a law that they have to retroactively cover data centers with solar panels and surround them with wind farms.

But data centers waste away resources, not create. do you understand now?

Last time I checked..you can’t drink a data center.

NOT a single one solar panel on the roofs😓

Oh, but the property taxes🤯

Why _not_ slap panels on the top of that? Surely the cost/benefit could be computed. Just seems like a waste.

D

They should be held to sites built only on Class 5 agricultural soil types.

and reportedly they emit a sound continually - remember when trump said the sound from windmills causes cancer [they do not] - funny what you are willing to ask others to put up with?

It’s amazing that they wouldn’t cover that entire monstrosity with solar panels. I think that’s a statement that reveals what they really think about you, your electricity and your water.

They're really gonna turn our country into a desert in their attempts to own the libs.

“EV demand will collapse the electrical system”

🎯

Consuming vital resources to the detriment of humanity doesn't seem intelligent to me, artificial or otherwise.

The first rule of data centers must be that they be self-sustaining IN PERPETUITY in all their uses of natural resources. Including water. Bring it from the ocean, clean it, and return it to the ecosphere cleaner than it was. I'm sure eClod can vibecode that out.

They could put a lot of solar panels on the roofs of these monstrosities. And they should be made to

We don’t need AI for anything other than advanced modeling. Not the kind of slop that the orange turd posts.

Put solar panels on them!

Using AI comes with a disclaimer, double check information it could be wrong, I bet they used AI in the bombing of the kids school in Iran

Data centers = surveillance centers

We Will never make it make sense. So don't try you'll get a headache.

Yes that is simple to explain: People who are against "solar panels" or PV Systems are being stupid and those are the people who need datacenters to get every thought served to them! Those are the same people who would vote for Trump!

Planning permission should state they can have the land, but have to cover all roofing in solar panels to reduce the drain on the grid .

Why can’t the data centers use solar to power themselves instead of taking power from human beings?

Cover the data centers with solar panels

Infuriating, they'll change their minds, guaranteed.

Data Centers house the data of everyone running for Public office too. We pay for the data centers. We should get to use the data too. For example, We can get background checks on EVERY person running for office. We pay for it. We own it. We should have access too.

Make no mistake about it these data centers are being put in place to unemploy permanently hundreds of millions of Americans 90% of the workforce

To the powerful, hypocrisy is a virtue. When they can lie to your face – both of you knowing full well that it's a lie – and still get everything they want it is a demonstration of their power.

And requiring 5 times the power and water supplied to surrounding counties. All That Produce Spam!

Late stage capitalism

Why can't these POS cancers on the land have raised solar farms over them? Shading them from direct sun and contributing to the grid?

Water. The water use is diabolical.

Ответ для Ed

Why couldn’t water be circulated through the center over and over, with a filtration process in the line where needed?

Ответ для Nanip

The water that goes over the equipment racks is closed loop, the water that cools that water usually isn't. Most/all use large scale evaporative cooling. What should be law, is that water MUST be non-potable aka not drinking water. So recycled etc.

Ответ для Ed

In Australia we have tight laws (depending on state) regarding use of potable water. The rate these data centres are built, it's hard for utilities to keep up, so the "easy option" is chosen with the promise to switch when available.

Ответ для Ed

Of course.

Solar panels are fine for farmland since most crops need a small amount of shade.

Crazy.

The only reason they call them “data centers” is because “mass surveillance centers” is harder to sell.

But the point is that it's the other way around. The diffuse nature of solar and wind, the specific inability to burn it on demand is precisely what makes it unfit for purpose.

Ответ для delserv

Have you heard of batteries?

Ответ для StockStandard

Yes, they add even more cost into solar and wind systems that already make no economic sense, making the numbers look even worse. Solar and wind's inability to provide on demand electricity is a physical limitation, not an engineering problem. These products are unfit for purpose.

These things are devastating for humans and the environment!

Americans apathy towards their political process has resulted in the oligarchs taking control of their country. 90 million registered voters didn’t even bother voting in the last presidential election, and 72 million aren’t even registered, hardly what you’d call a beacon of democracy.

Most of them are under the impression that this provides jobs (even though it doesn't). The mayor here insists that it will inject money into our economy because they'll have to pay property tax.

There was one data centre where they relocated an entire wetland to make way for it.

Ironic, isn’t it!

"Same people" memes are usually wrong, and I'd say this is an example. There's been plenty of push-back on data centers in rural, red-state America.

And these could be powered by solar generated electricity. But aren't.

Honestly it is a lot of data centers .

Draining our water , poisoning our wild life and soil . Come on people when will we have had enough

Data Centres serve Corruption.

Ответ для Dr. Manhattan

They are as good as their electrical surge protection. But I'd rather have somebody loot all those expensive components first.

Ответ для Dr. Manhattan

They should have pretty decent fire suppression. Most of them aren't built to the same standard as internet exchanges though where the whole ground floor is a massive slab of concrete, so a smash & grab with a bigger car should work. Just need to get past the access control for the whole site.

Can't the data centers just have solar panels

Ответ для Will Furlong

You'd need 1400 acres of solar panels to power a medium size 100MW data center, plus the equivalent in storage batteries. Why would they pay for all that when they can just use your electricity?

And why don’t these fuckers cover their roofs with solar panels? It’s the least they could do to make a cursory attempt at offsetting the drain on our grid.

Plus we’re paying for it by increased bills. We’ve been stitched up like kippers.
