Tressie McMillan Cottom27 июл., 20:45I lost the thread because *waves hand* so I don’t know the latest, best guidance for folks on the SAVE student loan plan. Any whipsmart folks with the bottom line on what plan to move to, status of legal challenges, and the real deadline to change?
Dominique Baker27 июл., 20:49Good overview you can easily share with others www.nj.com/news/2026/07...Student loan changes: SAVE plan is ending, what are the new payment options?Millions of Americans will soon be forced to pick a new student loan repayment plan: Here are the options.www.nj.com
Tara Shea27 июл., 21:24The mods on the PSLF and Student Loan Reddit pages have been doing the lord's work for a few years gathering lots of info and answering the same qs every day. One of them runs a free student loan advice NP called TISLA. Most misinfo is weeded out and explained clearly! several Pinned threads, etc.
Project Azar27 июл., 20:48Just from personal PSLF experience RAP is the worst repayment plan of the options presented. It would take my payment from ~700 to ~1300 and offer no other benefits. Even ICR was better, and ICR was horrible. If I could sneak back into PAYE I would, even though it expires eventually.
Tressie McMillan Cottom27 июл., 20:47(One of the saddest, most demoralizing experiences for me these days is how all of my institutional knowledge became obsolete in a matter of weeks. It’s so hard to advise or help students. The real answer to their questions is, too often, that there’s no good answer.)
Luke Herrine27 июл., 21:06In general the best advice, and the advice @debtcollective.bsky.social is giving, is to stay put. New litigation is ongoing that might keep some SAVE eligibility or at least require REPAYE and folks don’t have to move until September at the earliest
Vytautas (Dr. Malesh If You're Nasty)27 июл., 21:30I am sitting here in pslf buyback hell for what it's worth. Submitted buyback request in March. Waiting, waiting, waiting. In the meantime Mohela has not charged me anything. I really just want to cut my check and be done with it.
Katie27 июл., 20:48You have 90 days to change AFTER your loan servicer contacts you. You do not have to change before they do. The dept of ed deliberately mislead that their emails were the official notice.
