It's all but impossible for anyone to make a console now starting from scratch. All the old companies are dead or absorbed.

Tyler29 мар., 01:20There IS some truth to the old crash being very much a North American thing (hell, it happened like half a decade before I was born), due to Japan referring to it as the "Atari Shock" and the Japanese market remaining viable. Still, it did have a temporary impact on releasing games to the west.

This was before Japan's own "Lost Decade" which forced Nintendo to rethink their practices and how to combat a looming threat of foreclosure. Capcom's Final Fight struggled to pop into existence for this reason, too.

I say this as each of those things happened as a result of corporate greed.

🌈ｔｕｒｂｏ ｆａｌｃｏｎ 🚘29 мар., 14:09to be fair, the original 60gb playstation 3 was a bit of an overbuilt monster. i would have loved it if they kept on making it, but i see why they chose to make the platform a lot leaner. i only ever booted up a ps2 game once on mine. removing linux support was a bigger loss in my book.

Tyler29 мар., 02:09That may be true, but as time's gone on, it's seeming increasingly more and more likely that the 360 was the exception for Microsoft when it comes to consoles, and not at all the standard. At least considering how things have gone with the post-360 XBoxes.
