There was a time when I read "federal agents surveilled..." and pictured buttoned-up competent professionals who had years of training and probably a law or criminal justice degree. Now I just assume Bubba and Gus, high school dropouts, hired because they hate brown people as much as Homan does.

What happens with ICE finds people in rural areas without cameras? No cams, no witnesses.. Odds are high a lot of people disappear without a trace. ICE probably has clean up teams to hide any and all evidence.

They do not have the constitutional authority to conduct traffic stops for immigration holds. Only probable cause of a crime authorizes a stop.

“Looking like the suspect” is a broad, exceptionally vague and convenient claim that can mean simply that he appeared Latino. Not that I believe ICE accounts at all. Regardless, there was no reason to shoot anyone here.

I don't see any particularly reason to give ICE the benefit of the doubt that the "intended targets" and the men in this van shared any characteristics *beyond* being Hispanic.

I think they checked the registration of the car and determined it belonged to someone lacking permission to be in the US, so it's more like they actually identified him as not who they were looking for then stopped him for that reason That's how I read it anyway, so far

Something they have done for years is go to a last-known home address or workplace for a particular person, but when that person isn't there, they "ask" to see documentation for everyone there. Sometimes the home address is *one* unit in an apartment building, but they sweep the whole complex.
