The achiles heel of due process rights is presumption of neutrality in the judiciary. At the level of the immigration courts, the DT regime has systematically removed judges it feels favor immigrants and left only those who will do as told (those judges report directly to DT's DOJ anyway). Neutral?

Because he was pardoned preemptively by Biden, the argument is that there is no risk to him of prosecution so therefore no possibility of self-incrimination. Some say States could still possibly file charges. My view, they would try to nail him on mis-statements were he to make them in testimony.

Settlement is so badly drafted the immunity arguably extends to any action civil or criminal the US could have brought before the date of the signing. I'd fight like hell to preserve that deal if I were DT. Can't believe he cares about the slush fund unless he was going to make a claim against it

Yes. Believe the Trump #1 clan did take the 5th at the Biden period hearings. Of course there is a huge distinction: Trump's Cabinet and others in his administration HAVE committed numerous crimes, some including murder on the high seas and their testimony is unnecessary to prosecute.

The Committee, even the D's, skirted the issue of the waiver of tax liability and/or ;liability in preparing returns for DT, his fam members, and his corps and their "associates." Language is so broad as to cover waiver of any action by the US for anything as of the date of signing. Can I have one?

A member of the Committee had already voiced a desire to put Fauci behind bars, numerous people associated to or in the DT administration have said the same. We are dealing with a rogue government, particularly the DOJ. Any testimony could be used to drag Fauci through shit. The 5th was appropriate.

Adding to post: This DHS lawyer is embeded in a gov agency that dehumanizes immigrants as a policy, that has torn up the immigration courts by letting ICE have free rein in them, decimating the ranks of immigration judges and arranging the removal of judges showing any concern for due process.

Have posted before about the difficulty of the legal profession taking gov lawyers to task as state bar association follow a guideline not to "police" the behavior of gov lawyers under the presumption that gov agencies will police their own. Not now. This guy at DHS puts the profession TO SHAME.

How about instead we all restate our deepest gratitude to you personally and to each and every responder during Covid and its fallout. Went to emergency at Cedar's in LA during the pandemic. It was like what is described as a war zone with triage in the street under tents. God bless you all forever.
