avoid bagged greens, buy whole fruits and vegetables, buy local produce or frozen produce, trim away outer layers of produce and wash thoroughly, and when you can, heat or reheat your food to 158 degrees F which kills the parasite.

Thank you for this careful & useful explanation. We were just discussing if multiple sources & how we might best reduce our own risk while still eating vegetables. I live in Bay area CA. Should we avoid raw leafy greens unless local? Is washing just rinse w water or use soap? 1/

Why avoid bagged greens? A very prominent and experienced epidemologist at CIDRAP said bagged greens that say not to wash them on the bag have already been washed in ways that are better at removing potential contagions than people can do in their own kitchens.
