When bands lose an original member they should just split up even if it's just the drummer or the bassist

No. The only important person is the singer. If they leave, the band breaks up. Anyone thinking otherwise is, well, one of the backing musicians.

Yeah it would be better if the world had never had Rumours, Abbey Road, Exile on Main St, Master of Puppets etc

Suede would like a chat

Erm The Beatles?

This is about Rush, isn't it?

She's doing an awesome job though.

Correct. When they replace the singer and carry on under the same name it’s an utter disgrace, have some dignity.

Yes the London Symphony Orchestra has just announced it’s calling time after 120 years because the third viola has moved to the Liverpool Philharmonic.

What about LinkedIn park?

Or just append a numeral like an internet troll. Fleetwood_Mac_XVIII

Like when Pete Best was bounced out of The Beatles?

I mean we could have avoided Rocky Raccoon, to be fair.

Orchestras are fucked then.

Slipknot would disagree

So, unless you are ZZ Top or U2, pretty much every other major band ever would have split before their peak era including The Beatles?

Well that’s not true. Queen, Zep, The Jam, The Smiths, The list isn’t short

Oh and to add, Dire Straits had their most successful album having ditched their drummer (Pick Withers).

I can't believe we've had 26 answers and no-one said Rolling Stones? Both bassist AND drummer were swapped from the originals.

I know this is you, Dave Mustaine.

When does this turn into the philosophers’ axe problem?

I feel sorry for cultures who have to reach for "philosopher's axe" or "ship of Theseus", because they don't have Trigger's broom.

Mark E Smith would have run out of band names. There aren't that many words in the dictionary.

This would have split Oasis just after they released Some Might Say, so yep, fine by me.

But the Beatles!

Even if it’s just “the rhythm section” So many bands with original members who either didn’t fit in, were addicts, couldn’t play well enough, stole stuff, brought their mates to practice, voted conservative, smelled terrible. Should the Beatles have split up? Not the original lineup.

Ironically, a lot of the things you're describing are things Pete Best DIDN'T do but John Lennon did 🤣

Nirvana would have been done after bleach. Ridiculous

Not possible. Capital is already invested. Nobody is irreplaceable.

Motorhead split up when the bassist died and he was an original member.

They owe you nothing, Ken.

But how would Sugababes have survived?! Started in 1998, in 2009 there were ZERO original members. Now look...the original 3 are back together, and the world rejoices!!!
