I've used it maybe 5 times in 20 years but I can't imagine it not being installed.

All about potplayer.tv now sorry. But yeah VLC is there for back up.

I honestly prefer CCCP, since VLC used to give me problems, although that was 15 years ago. I know VLC was pretty fine then.

VLC on iPad works a treat also, network streaming and even accepts file transfer from pc version of VLC for viewing later

One of my unpopular opinions that I cling to is that I hope VLC’s UI stays pretty bad because if there wasn't a reason to make other media players it would just take over and then enshittify.

I've been using it for years because it lets you slow down music so you can make anything sound like it's being played through a foot of sludge

VLC gave me some trouble a couple years ago so I ended switching to SMPlayer instead and I've been very happy with it it has worked seamlessly for me ever since

When I was but a wee lad everybody used MPC+CCCP instead because VLC at that point was very bad at handling softsubs and I needed by anime fansub fix That hasn't been true for about a million years but I still use MPC-HC out of habit...but I keep VLC installed just in case

For all the flak it gets, it's the only player I've ever used where every basic feature works out of the box, with zero fiddling needed. Even HDR tonemapping for SDR displays.

Never had much use for VLC. FFmpeg on the other hand I use daily.

On windows MPC (clsid2's fork) is better imo, VLC subtitle support has been buggy for decades with no indication of properly fixing the issues. Of course, MPC is windows only...

Running KDE Plasma means I have VLC by default. I do all my video playing in Haruna, or Kodi if I'm home.

I've been using MPC-HC lately, mainly cuz VLC didn't run well on my old PC then I got used to it. out of that and MPV tho, I found VLC easiest to choose a specific subtitle track if for some reason I need to tho.

I haven't since i learned about PotPlayer.

It even plays midi and tracker files

I watch movies on a 12 foot screen in my backyard and THE best quality/resolution is high quality rip and playing with VLC 👍🏼

Gonna be real, I keep VLC around for compatability. I use Haruna because its UI stays out of my way and because it's the only video app I know that allows me to open multiple videos without switching to the already open window.

I'm more of an mpc hc/be guy, but do use vlc on android

I dont use VLC as often as I used to, I mostly use MPC-HC and MPV now, but VLC stays installed because it always comes in handy in a pinch.

VLC is kinda shit for music though, the way the audio stack is implemented there can be inconsistency in the speed/tone at which audio is played. I use MPlayer for video and Clementine for audio.
