if you ever wonder what it's like to be an artist: you can draw your favorite drawing one day and then the next day, every line you draw is the ugliest line that has ever been created

I am not good at art but I feel that from a writing perspective

is it like one day you write something so touching and sincere and then the next day you write "he ran good. so good. like woah"????

That kind of thing exactly

If you want to experience this shift occurring within seconds, try inking with a brush.

That gut-wrenching despair when you can draw a character perfectly ONCE and then can never draw them again

Get new sketchbook. Draw one line. Fight urge to throw the whole sketchbook away as it is clearly cursed.

This is a lot like the day to day experience of being a skateboarder.

I dont really mind the ugly days... what i find more annoying is those days when the lines won't quite gel or the composition just won't come together exactly the way you want but close and you cant really tell why

the amount of times i just have to walk away from a piece and not look at it for awhile so i can look at with "fresh eyes" because of just this

and those are the days to scheme and be evil!!!!!

Omg, I've finally found my fellow fig tree story hater!!! 😭❤️ Glad I'm not the only one. People never seem to understand what my deal with that story is.

there is a lesson there.... it is a metaphor... A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes something by saying it is something else.

This is relevant to writing, also.

i am learning that!! writers (handshake emoji) artists

How can you fuck up a line? Some might ask. It's easy. You just try to draw a line and fuck it up.

accurate

I've noticed this in myself. One day I can write what feels to me at least to be an absolutely fantastic poem...and then, for days afterward, I seem to produce mostly garbage. It's a cycle. Garbage, better garbage, getting there...something good...then back to the beginning!

And then anyone who sees them will insist it’s the same photo, and it’s awesome and you should keep going <3

cries!!

This but it's 25 of the latter for every one of the former

Can relate

A very similar thing happens with athletes too. One day everything just flows and you are like within a few seconds/kilos of your personal best. A week later it's all shit and you can't even get near the time or weight you did just a week ago. Two minutes behind/15 kilos below, with the same effort.

And then you look at it again a few years later, and think “Wow, my work back then had a fresh, energetic quality that it's lacking now.”

Or the other way, you think something is super ugly only to look back on it one day and be like "how did I do that?"

This is too real lol

In a similar vein, one day you totally know how to draw a human body and all its parts, even hands and feet, just swish swish done The next day it takes fifty million tries just to get the sketch done and how tf do fingers work anyway Jamais vu kinda
