It really irritates me that, despite the news being full of reports of drought and wildfires, almost all the weather forecast presenters adopt a jolly, upbeat tone when talking about 'fine, dry weather' and a slightly glum tone when mentioning the odd places where there will be a few showers.

Totally agree, and to add to that tone, the talk about ‘records being broken’ as if the weather were some kind of Olympic sport.

I mostly see BBC weather, and I hadn’t noticed this. They certainly mention ‘human induced climate change’ frequently when reporting on the wildfires

Absolutely. The BBC report more facts regarding heat waves and climate change. Perhaps the other stations are more influenced by climate change deniers, who would watch their homes burn rather than admit that the majority of world climate scientists just might be right.

Just to clarify, I am talking, specifically, about the weather forecast bulletins, not the news reports. In this respect, the BBC forecasters seem to me to be as prone to the problem as any other broadcaster.

I can only speak for the weather forecast on Welsh BBC. It's the only one I watch, and they do mention climate change regularly.

How many of the BBC’s weather forecasters know that Norn Iron doesn’t have a west coast nor extends as far south as Galway, Cork or Kerry? It’s a long list…

Yes, and it irritates me that the BBC puts news about the World Cup ahead of out of control wildfires.

An Australian relative told me that we need to start thinking as they do; that a prolonged spell of very hot, dry weather is awful. We barely had a frost in the south of England last winter. Melbourne had this climate when I was younger, more or less.
