Democrats vying for a pair of deep-red Senate seats are facing increasingly desperate calls from within their party to step aside for more promising independent candidates. But they say they won't drop out — unless there's divine intervention.

As always politicians out for their own self interests above the needs of their constituents

Do Not tempt me to start praying. I'm good at this.

Politics has almost completely moved into self help and screw the party and country.

'All politics is local'

The "woman of faith" and "bolt of lightning from God" comments scare the hell out of me.

I believe in letting primary elections play themselves out and then come together to win in the general . Otherwise your thumb is on the scales no matter who you support. This should be where everyone takes time to vet candidates, not pit party members against one another. Competition is healthy.

Does anyone really believe Republicans will not win in those deep red states?

People are hurting. It depends on the messaging. If candidates talk about the economy, corruption, jobs, inflation they should do well. That’s what everyone is concerned about.

T

It won't matter in the end. Red votes red. If the person has Independent or Dem in front, it still won't matter at the ballot. Not that I don't get what is trying to be done the National DNC has major issues as well. Vetting candidates is a major fail ie Fetterman as one example or NC etc...

At the end of the day, voters deserve the strongest candidates and real choices. Winning should be about earning trust, not just staying in the race.

The ONLY thing that matters right now is taking the House and Senate to stop the onslaught of fascism. After that we can have policy debates. Until then everyone must put their differences to the side for the common good. Otherwise it won’t matter

Politicians are selfish regardless of party. Biden was selfish. RBG was selfish. Platner was selfish. So long as you put your career and ambitions ahead of the people, you are selfish. They all are.

How can anyone be proud of our country that is currently being run into the ground by a liar, cheater, uneducated war monger? If you are you have the problem not the democrats!

Ответ для Dems Were Once Sane

It's not hate just because we call out flaws.

Ответ для Dems Were Once Sane

Wanting one’s country to be better, to do better, and to live up to its own creed isn’t hate. It’s a deeper, more sincere form of patriotism than just flying the flag, reciting the pledge of allegiance, and feeling nervous around “those people.”

No

More infighting. The Democratic Party is possibly its own worst enemy.

Always has been. It's like it's planned. Weaponized incompetence. They can say they're trying and they need more money.

No one wants independent candidates!

Everyone does!!!!

TOO LATE for that stupidity. We didn’t learn from 2024 not to change horses this late in the game.

Yeah but we gotta let the primary process primarily play itself out. Otherwise some of our most ardent base may feel cheated. As Eddie Vedder says "I ride the wave....where it takes me...".

I say if the corporate dems of the party is telling you to step down, that means stay in. It’s the donors telling the corporate dems what to do. Get money out of politics.

You doing PolitiGOP stories? We are fuXord.

Why does Politico always report Democrats as "desperate" or some other pejorative description? It isn't true.

Rhetorical? They're in on the divide and conquer strategy to boost Republicans, their preferred political party.

WTF is wrong with the democratic party?

If there is one thing that moderate Democrats have taught us over the past 10 years, it’s that they are willing to allow the United States to fall because they like Republicans more than progressives.

This is factually incorrect.

ok, tell me how you think their actions prove they are "willing to let the USA fail".

Ответ для The Captain

You have only to look at moderates in Congress. They’ve helped normalize Trumpism. Voted numerous times to advance his agenda when they had the chance to stop destructive legislation, or AT THE VERY LEAST, pretend to oppose it. As a voter, it is disheartening having to explain something so obvious.

Ответ для 🇺🇸𝕀𝕟𝕕𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕗𝕦𝕘𝕖𝕖🇺🇸 𝚂𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝙽𝚘𝚠!

SOME moderates have. Many others have not. I do agree many moderates were too slow to catch on to Trump's dangers. As a now-former GOPer, i fault both parties for failing to know the times they're in. it's not an issue of moderate vs progressive, that's the wrong classifier, imho.

ok to start with, i have to ask you what you define as a "centrist Dem", genuinely. those terms seem to be slung around with no actual meaning. to me a centrist is someone who finds the common ground between two different discussions and anchors there for negotiating.

Ответ для The Captain

the tricky part, to me, is that negotiations have to be made in good faith, and that's what I think the GOP is not doing now (i left the party after 24 years, last year). i do agree we need more stubborn opposition to actual bad policy. but only a handful of dems are supporting GOP legislation now

Ответ для The Captain

i think it's an illogical leap to say "dems must oppose every single action of the GOP", and could even be counterproductive. i do also think there's a genuine dilemma in anything that helps preserve any semblance of normalcy though, such as negotiations over bills the POTUS will ignore anyway.

Ответ для The Captain

Rs have not negotiated in good faith for 20 years. We win now and ram our agenda down their throats. When they get sick of it, they can come to us in good faith. I'm tired of Dems offering the olive branch. No more. We do hardcore Dem stuff! Those clowns can come to us when they are tired of losing

Ответ для The Captain

Thar sounds more like former Republicans.

Ответ для 🇺🇸𝕀𝕟𝕕𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕗𝕦𝕘𝕖𝕖🇺🇸 𝚂𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝙽𝚘𝚠!

Far left candidates can’t get elected in areas that are moderate. Purple areas do not elect far left candidates. In deep red we should be running someone who is almost an independent.

Ответ для The Captain

Stop parsing words. It's just a deflection.

Ответ для The Captain

And there it is....as a "former GOP."...you guys just can't quit it...so pathetic.....but stop telling Democrats what we should do.

Ответ для 🇺🇸𝕀𝕟𝕕𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕗𝕦𝕘𝕖𝕖🇺🇸 𝚂𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝙽𝚘𝚠!

Someone like Fetterman has been frustrating to many Democrats, but the reality is it’s him or a Republican. No far left candidate could get elected in Pennsylvania. Manchin left and was instantly replaced by a Republican.

Ответ для christy115

Him or a Republican, given the percent of constituents motivated to vote. Offer better candidates, voter participation rises, and the status quo excuse of “him or a Republican” becomes irrelevant.

Not everyone considers an extreme left candidate the better candidate as you are assuming.

I’m sry but I live in Pa and for the last 20 yrs at least Pa has become blue. The cities have many more voters than the western suburbs so I’m not sure your correct about my state.

Ответ для happywarrior24

My point was PA isn’t going to elect an extreme far left candidate. All of your blue elected officials are center blue, not extreme far left.

PA has one of the highest voter turnout in the country. In 2024, they had a record high turnout with over 77% of register voters voting. And the state went for Trump, who’s not a middle of the road Republican, but an extremist MAGA Republican. The Dems elected made it because they were center Dems.

Ответ для christy115

Have you met the Philly AG? Our elected are not moderate.

Ответ для The Captain

Bankhead can't win. If she stays in, the MAGA candidate wins. If she drops, he loses. Staying in is pure ego or Republican love. She's staying.

Whats the polling look like here? Are these calls for dems to drop out rooted in reality that an independent has a real shot, or just hopes and prayers for some miracle?

GOOD!! Bring on your radicals!!

Adults who believe in magic continuing to fuck things up for everyone.

Put both candidates up and let the voters decide!!

Dems should talk to Mark Kelly. He was successful in getting a number of potential candidates for the House (AZ-06) to drop out so we only had 1 candidate in the primary to choose from (and it wasn’t someone I was happy with, but my preferred candidate was one who dropped out).

Bankhead = Ralph Nader

It seems the operative phrase in this piece is “muddy path” for the independents. Politico always enjoys a Dem on Dem skirmish.
