Comment on a post about how great children’s comics are right now. Is this sarcasm, am I misreading it.

I feel like the best reading for children is 'what they love' & a nice to have extra is 'varied'. We finished the Hobbit last year & my daughter loved it. She also loves farts & explosions. Reading Michael Rosen as a kid & realising I was allowed to be silly & rude & play with words was huge for me.
I loved Narnia et al, but there are so many other good, mature, challenging, exciting books for children these days, so I agree some of this comment is nostalgia wank. However - I realise this makes me sound like an old fart - children do need to eat their vegetables as well as their puddings, mind.
Agreed, it depends on the kids and is a real shame. I think comics are a fantastic gateway for reluctant readers, a brilliant sometimes food (with no guilt!) for the kids who read a lot until they are mature enough to curate their own reading, and an important artistic & aesthetic medium as a whole.
