She/her. Warwickshire. Disabled mama, formerly of Ravelry, 4rthur, b3ta, Ouch, and blogger. I have a husband and a 9yo son.

The weather has cooled, I should go forth and Do Things while it lasts... ... except I just don't have it in me right now. Even with PA support it took a couple of hours for me to get showered, dressed, and sitting up on my bed.

Me: okay, bedtime, sweet dreams. Jamie: mum, can I ask you something? Me: of course. Jamie: how does the motor in the fan turn the electric energy into kinetic energy? Me: oh boy. (Managed it but am not feeling sleepy now.)

Nonono, rain, come baaaaaaaack!

The scream I just scrumpt. We've been waiting years for CAMHS to see Jamie despite efforts of mainstream school, specialist school, GP, social services, etc. Recently they told our family support worker that it'd likely be several more years.

Warwickshire County Council

A mental health service for children and young people called ECHO (standing for Every Child Heard and Offered support), has launched today across Warwickshire.

I hate days with two 4 o'clocks. Also my mother in law is coming over in about six hours, and I'm pretty sure none of us will pass muster.

Parenting achievement: Jamie is playing Roblox and voice chatting with his cousin, and just used the phrase "oh, bloody Nora," which as expletives go is unusual for a 10yo.

Two of my grandparents were deceased before I was born and the other two lived in a different country and spoke a different language, so I never really chatted with any of them about their infancy.

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

Zero. Oh, I have plenty of stuff memorised, I even have LAMDA qualifications for "Speaking Of Verse And Prose", but caught unawares I have nothing, unless maybe there's a great work of literature that starts with "um..."

You’re caught unawares and offered $1000 per correct word if you recite any existing piece of text you know - accumulating up to the point you make your first mistake. How much do you walk away with?

Today is going to be A Lot, but if I pull it off then I can spend all of Tuesday and Wednesday holed up in my bedroom with the aircon unit and a clear conscience. But oh boy, today is going to be an endurance event.

Oh wow, we had one of these and now I am experiencing near-physical nostalgia.

When kids today complain about videogames I think back to the Turnin’ Turbo Dashboard I got in the 80s and how utterly magical it was. Then I yell at a cloud before turning to dust and bones. Anyway I’m 48 now and I’ve got another one.

We had about five minutes of barely-noticeable drizzle, but already the parched yellow square of grass we refer to as a garden is getting visible green patches again.

Doing the thing where I've woken up because my painkillers have worn off. I am very awake. It is too early to be up. But if I take another dose now, I'll be groggy as hell when Jamie wakes up.

Jamie has a friend over and they are trying to play, except he has a head full of Alan Becker's stick men (which she hasn't seen), and she's full of The Amazing Digital Circus (which he hasn't seen). It's worse than BBC v ITV.
