In case you missed it, the Green Party in Hackney spearheaded a cancellation of the borough's twinning agreement with Haifa, which is one thing, but the Mayor of Hackney has now written to the Mayor of Haifa requesting a reply by *October 7*, which is either stupid or pretty evil, take your pick.

I know which one I’d pick.

That's just awful and deliberate. They deserve to lose support with actions like this.

The date - worthy of Dolores Umbridge.

Oh that's vile!

Fuck. Me 😬

That’s ugly for sure

What the fuck

Thing is even if you're generous and assume that, somehow, it's ignorance, it doesn't say great things anyway

What is a twinning agreement? I am genuinely asking because I am interested, and it is not something I've come across before.

an agreement between two towns or cities, undertaken by the two local government bodies. Mostly ceremonial, the twinned town will appear on signs as you enter town, though there will be some kind of celebration arranged at the beginning of the twinning.

I’ll go with the latter, and probably done with a smirk, but you can never rule out stupidity.

364 other days in the year and they just happen to choose that one.

It's here. I apologise for the lack of Alt as I'm rushing, but it very specifically says "7 October".

Were I, say, Mayor Yahav, I would tell Hackney where to stick their twinning agreement.

The obnoxious petty cruelty is the point.
