Wisconsin used to have a town or two that was dry. My grandparents lived in one of them, Richland Center. It did not help. It just made for lots of OWIs (their version of DUI)

My first work visit there was basically a 3 day bender

That’s weird. I’d expect the parts of Oregon where call centers are a chunk of the jobs to show more red (altho a number of those have closed and they’re a drop in the bucket for jobs in PDX itself.)

I know one of the green areas in Oregon is a country, that until recently, had zero bars. It still has less than 2000 people

Happy to report I'm in one of the few purple counties on that map.

My God. Wisconsin seems the closest we have to the Garden of Eden in this world. Why people living there want to spend their time wasted?

Wisconsin does have a problem, but this is also obvious at least partially a measurement difference. There wouldn't be such stark state borders otherwise.

I don’t believe this about the NW corner of NM where I grew up—we had the highest drunk driving fatality rate in the nation for decades! We had drive through liquor sales! By 2 months after graduation my high school class of >200 had lost 5 to drunk driving (2 before graduation 3 right after)!
