The government does background checks and "friend background" calls on secretaries. Republicans love talking about how government employees are a menace but they have some of the highest background standards out of any field. But, if it means getting racist police out the door we scrap it all.

One of my exes joined ICE circa 2009. Their hiring standards were already significantly less than municipal police departments - they didn't require applicants to take the MMPI, which is why my ex applied; he had failed the MMPI for several municipal police departments.

In Maine, a private person can arrest someone without a warrant if they have probable cause that the person committed murder or a Class A, B, or C crime, or if the person actually commits certain misdemeanors in their presence. He’s cooked.

This incident escalates the already serious questions about ICE's hiring practices. He reportedly has a diagnosis of severe bipolar disorder, confirmed by family, and was hospitalized for suicide multiple times. How many corners were cut to hire him and put a gun in his hand?
