her mildly positive, mildly critical write up is also being reported EMILY WILSON ATTACKS NOLAN so like it's pretty clear this reaction is the one being aimed for

i dont get why people are so emotional over this film. seems to have created a cult following. lot of passionate opinions on both sides. i dont like sitting for 3 hours in a theater w no intermission, so ill wait til it comes out on on blu-ray and enjoy it @ home where i can pause it as needed.

The whole thing is just bored people with no lives trying to make themselves feel real again.

I wonder how many of the people who suddenly have very passionate opinions on the Odyssey only recently found out it wasn't just a minivan.

I already got blasted for this but I'm a glutton for punishment lol. I never heard of her nor could I understand what she was trying to convey in her lengthy post. All I know is that she had a gripe about something or someone, I just left it at that.

I do wonder if it was not the case that the London Review of Books thought ‘Who will we ask to write a review? I know …’ rather than the perception some have that she initiated and submitted an allegedly spiteful review and asked them to publish it

She’s probably spent a bit more time in the text than all of us combined. There’s a lot of depth and nuance that can’t fit into a 2+ hour movie, so I get where she’s coming from.

It is extremely weird that we're looking at thoughts from one of the world's pre-eminent classicists about a story with nearly three millennia of history, on which she is a recognized expert, and going "I dunno if she's allowed to say that." I promise she is.
