I know this would be closing the barn door after he horse has been reelected president, but if Democrats win both chambers I'd really like to see a concurrent resolution deeming January 6 an insurrection under 14(3). 1/

It's not just that our university presidents have failed to engage in loud, public collective action to oppose the existential assault on our institutions. It's worse. They've been actively complicit. A total moral failure. A total collective action failure. Adverse selection in authoritarian times.

Dominique Baker

So no I'm not surprised by: "the administration’s latest move was developed in partnership with university leaders, primarily the Association of American Universities, which represents dozens of top research institutions including all eight Ivy League colleges." 🎁 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

the next president has a duty to the country to prove that “tax immunity” is a completely made up thing that doesnt exist. they need to do this through intense prosecution to signal to future leaders what will happen if they try this

Kyle Griffin

FLAG: Trump gets to keep tax immunity for himself, his sons, and the Trump Organization under the new 'deal' struck by Todd Blanche. The new order also reaffirms that Trump won't have to pay any taxes he might have owed the IRS.

Despite the Trump administration claiming that tariffs would revitalize American manufacturing, they have instead been a source of manufacturing job losses, rising prices, and surging bankruptcies on main streets across the country. https://ampr.gs/4aXT4hk

When you ask states to reduce payment errors—but only count overpayments and underpayments as errors—guess what happens? States reject applicants they're unsure about because wrongful denials don't count against them.⁣ ⁣ https://newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/how-snaps-new-rules-make-eligible

The timing/sequencing issues with the SNAP cost shift are only one of the worst aspects of the policy design. The second worst aspect is the incentive to drop eligible participants. The first worst aspect is that whole states are going to drop out of the program entirely.

Katie Bergh

This is key: Chair Boozman says this gives "additional time to strengthen administration of SNAP benefits and reduce payment error rates." It does not. The cost shift would still be based on error rates for this fiscal year — so the window to make progress has largely closed.

As I've said before: What high-paying long-term jobs do they pretend exist here? A data center isn't a place where execs come and do Big Deals. Go to the server room at your workplace; are there lots of rich people in there spending money?

Aaron Rupar

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

it's not encouraging to have a Fed chair who is openly pushing political propaganda. The inflation rate was moving towards the Fed's 2.0% target until Trump's tariffs and wars kicked in. That is a fact that Warsh must know.

I had exactly this thought about Salam about 15 years ago and it's been the same ever since. He moves in their social circles, talks in their cadences, attends their events, and is genial to them in person, so he gets no pushback whatsoever for enabling & defending moral horrors.

Ned Resnikoff

Seeing how many respectable liberals, and even leftists, in New York media continued to speak warmly of Reihan Salam is what made me first realize that some journalists have no criteria for moral judgment other than whether someone is personally nice to them. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/n...

You can see why Ross Douthat would want to leave the New York Times to go work for a network that bases stories on lies printed in the New York Post that they then have to retract.

CBS News ran a claim that "thousands of 9/11 victims' families" want Mamdani banned. The petition organizer told a journalist she has no actual list and the 300 figure was just an estimate. CBS News has since corrected its coverage

Every person this administration wrongly deported should be granted asylum and a path to citizenship. Won’t even begin to right wrongs like this. But it’s a place to start.

Gillian Brockell

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.
