They are not particularly great reads, but the ingredients of the setting are really evocative. The first adventure published for Dark Sun was about leading a slave rebellion, IIRC? Would've been cool to see an iteration of the setting by somebody who can handle such themes well ...

The school returned to normal: scolding students, berating them, scaring them---about race, gender, the world, the future. Raising a generation primed for ethnofascist politics. Why do liberals block real change when it is proposed? Maybe the liberal bougeoisie don't want change. 5/

Just one example: When Maszlee was Education Minister we saw a real tone-shift in the school we live next to. But because Maszlee focused on students' material conditions (free breakfast, no dress code for shoes) he was mocked, called an Islamist bigot, ousted. By liberals!

The last few years have been ... okay? Typical, maybe. Liberals got comfortable, revealed themselves to be neoliberals, thought they'd won. Did small tweaks, but failed to deliver on the broad social and economic programmes that would've saved our country from its ethnic-identity politics. 4/

Felt this was coming. But it sucks to see, regardless. In some ways this is an end to the liberal dream---a dream Sharon and I once believed in. We marched for free and fair elections. We made campaign art and copy for the then-opposition. A once-close friend became a minister. 3/

I'd argue that it is the campaign setting that is most topical to our current time. The world is burning, all nations are racist genocidal tyrannies, there are no heroes coming to save you. If you want a better world you have to lead the revolution yourself.

It's so trope-y that if the words "Dark Sun" weren't slapped onto it I'd scroll right past it in a slideshow.

Also: the irony of this new nonsense getting coverage as "D&D's most heavy metal setting" when one of the (many) cool things about it was that metal is rare as hell because we've exhausted the earth.
