This can’t be reformed. It’s not a training issue. The agents who murdered Pretti and Good, and who shot Sosa-Celis have been agents for more than 8 years. I’ll be voting for candidates who support dismantling DHS and abolishing ICE.

Then, on top of that, the film acknowledges that war is not just men's burden. The cost of war to women is steep, merciless, brutal, often invisible (no moms in the Underworld), and the audience is forced to face this truth via Athena, Penelope, Helen, Clytemnestra, Iphigenia, Calypso, and Circe.

The links to post-war trauma recovery are esp. apparent. The aggression (Polyphemus), overconsumption (Circe), desire (sirens), disassociation/memory suppression/drug use (Calypso), phantoms (Athena and Synod), fear of normalcy/survivor's guilt (Odysseus's fear of home), etc.

So many thoughts on The Odyssey as a film, but I really can't stop thinking about Odysseus's character and his journey as he moves towards a fragile peace after a costly and bloody war and amidst raw uncertainty about himself and the future. So many layers and narratives in the tapestry.
