Thank you so much to my AD @casscolors.bsky.social for trusting me with this piece and for making it possible for me to pour all those feelings and memories into a painting. I hope it shows a bit of the love I put on it and transmits warm and cozy feelings to anyone that looks at it <3

I really felt like little Bilbo in this scene. And I miss her so much, but I'm so happy I could make this piece as an homage to her and immortalize her warm smile on a painting for a set I know she would have loved to see, and that now, in a way, I feel like she's a part of.

So when I got the assignment for this card, the only thing I could think of was of her, all those shared moments and how much she taught me and how passionate she made me feel about fantasy stories by sharing her own passion with me.

And when I grew up a bit and started reading on my own, the first thing she gave me as a gift were the three issues of a comic book adaptation of The Hobbit, illustrated by David Wenzel that to this day, they still blow my mind ❤️

She loved fantasy as much as she loved teaching, and one of my first memories together related to that, was her reading me The Hobbit. Again and again, I loved that book and the way she would read it to me.

But my love for the fantasy genre comes from even before that. My late mom was a hispanic philologist and a spanish teacher at a highschool, and she had a big bookcase covering the whole side of her room full of books and comic books.

I started playing Magic The Gathering when I was 10-11yo at school. Seeing and admiring all the art on those cards was definitely one of the main reasons that inspired me to pursue this career and to end up working as an artist. Luckily enough, working for the game that ignited that flame inside me.
