100 years ago, one grandmother was a baby and another a decade away from her birth. One great-grandmother was hunting for her horse-trainer husband's body and his murderer. Another had just given birth to her 10th baby in 10 years, stillborn, caused by the beatings her husband (a miner) gave her.
