Just a person trying to be pseudonymous on the internet. Sometime teacher of philosophy. Episcopal. Trying to love my crooked neighbor with my crooked heart.

What percentage of Linda McMahon's kids pursed a degree in skilled trades? Oh it was 0? What about the kids of all Linda McMahon's close friends and coworkers? Also 0% Fascinating!

Republicans love pushing vocational-only education instead of comprehensive-education because they want a healthy supply of low-cost servants and less competition for the professional and boss jobs they want their own kids to have.

My hot take is that part of the reason people feel like they have to use AI is that we basically killed the internet. Outside of, like, Wikipedia nothing works. It’s just pop ups, dickovers, and slop. At least Claude gives you a clean window and relevant text (for now).

Kaitlin Clark seems like a normal person who just wants to play basketball and cash State Farm checks but unfortunately she is a magnet for weird drama that isn't her fault.

One way that Harris is like Biden is that she is always seeking to take positions in the middle of her party (extremely complimentary).

"“We need to revisit the point of expanding the court to 13 justices like we have 13 district courts,” Harris said at the National Urban League’s annual conference...also calling for a review of the Electoral College and statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, DC." www.cnn.com/2026/07/31/p...

For a while I was luke-warm on Spiderman. I mean, how many different sizes of web can he spin? Probably not that many, I figured. Well, you're not going to believe this but...

another data point for “spider-man is the best superhero” not even superhero fatigue can keep people from wanting to hang out with our pal pete

Do not gaze long into the slop. For the slop also gazes into you.

Micah

for a very long time the republican party has been moving towards people who actually believe the slop they consume instead of people who view it as a tool, but the slop has been moving as well the fox news grandpas are now being outflanked by the groypers in the fever swamps

That second norm is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever read.

I think we should combine philosophy BlueSky's position that "flirting can be unintentional" with the emerging Gen Z norm that "flirting outside of dating apps is immoral" to create the most neurotic generation ever before seen.

Researchers at U.C. Berkeley used lasers to stimulate retinal cone cells in a way that doesn’t occur naturally—creating a new color that only seven people in the world have seen. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

All real ball-knowers know that players give max-effort during All Star games and take it very seriously. There is no horsing around or half-assing during All Start games. This is a thing known by all ball-knowers.

Alejandra Caraballo

Ben Shapiro spends his entire show mocking the WNBA and its players. Including a montage his team put together of missed shots at the All-Star game which he laughs at. It's incredible how much transphobia can just let you be an open misogynist.

POV: The estate sale agent walking through my great aunt’s house after her passing. (He is a huge West Wing fan and likes to listen to the opening theme on his AirPods while working.)

Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted this video of the Oval Office and it somehow looks even more embarrassing than I realized

This movie was my introduction to adult cinema (not in the sense of sex but in the sense of "movies for adults") and the first time I saw it I thought "wow, this is so sophisticated". Then I saw it again a few years later and realized "no, actually this is terrible and dumb."

Widow's Bay DSA

Was looking up As Good as It Gets to see which Oscars it won and I'm obsessed with that tagline, which sounds like graffiti in a horror survival game

The AI is exclusively trained on vetted texts! So it doesn’t hallucinate any more? Well….

Sonja Drimmer

The defense is: "we use a vetted set of authorized texts for the purposes of training AI to generate responses to questions." Aside from the uncanny valley horror of necromancy that such automated history-telling incites, there's also the issue of sources being processed like this w/o context. 7/n

This passage reminds me of watching Poor Things and spending the whole movie thinking “oh man she has to be getting so many nasty diseases“ and then they hand-wave it away with one line about getting tested and everything being ok. That movie was… not my favorite.
