No fairness. No due process. Stripping children of legal counsel isn’t just unjust, it fast-tracks their deportation back into danger.

At the same time, immigration authorities are fast-tracking asylum cases, forcing children into accelerated proceedings with no time to prepare. And right now in New York, 40 percent of minors in immigration courts do not have a lawyer.

Her story is sadly reflective of many spouses bearing the financial and emotional cost of Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda, emphasizing the critical need for access to legal representation.

Following her husband’s detention, Reyes must now raise her children alone while struggling to cover thousands in living expenses and legal fees.

Immigration judges in #NYC issued nearly 4,500 removal orders in June, the third highest in the country. Though the #DOJ claims these hearings ease a massive backlog and prevent unnecessary delays, rushing people through the process creates chaos and deprives immigrants of their fair day in court.

Here, staff and residents are reimagining and transforming prison culture. By centering human dignity and using restorative practices to promote accountability and healing, a department of corrections provides needed support rather than more punishment.
