For a lot of these people, all the gender stuff actually meant was “gay marriage should be illegal” but they did not communicate that to their kids successfully and now there’s an entire generation of Catholics who think John Paul II taught that women have to stay home and churn out babies

Don’t send a thank you note following a hot dog barbecue. It would not be in keeping with the unpretentious nature of hot dogs. (he/him)

I am completely obsessed with this phenomenon, which I usually refer to as something like “next-generation belief in one’s own bullshit”
Josh Zingherat one point, Republican elites viewed Fox News as useful for riling up the masses, but now we have a generation of elected officials who have been raised on it and are incapable of viewing it as right wing entertainment and instead view it as factual.

Tom & LorenzoPeople don't seem to want to admit that "I would be ashamed to have written any part of this" is shockingly harsh language for the average film review. She's within her rights to say it, and she knew exactly the response she would get for it, but it's definitely an eyebrow-raiser

lmao no it is not. It just isn't. It is fully within the norm for a negative review where the writer feels strongly. This is Roger Ebert.

Agree with @jamellebouie.net that it's pretty clear Elon Musk wanted to eviscerate USAID *for the purpose of killing as many African people as possible.* Mass death wasn't an accidental byproduct of his "deep state" paranoia; it was a key mission of DOGE. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/o...
I knew someone who was a real nasty piece of work and worked at Heritage, groyperized by any sane meaning of the word, and she quit because Heritage was too nasty for her.
Don MoynihanMaybe MAGA is not suited for governance? The Heritage Foundation saw internal purges, staffers using Signal to figure out what was going on, and spokespersons who attack the media than respond to questions. So, just like how Trump is running our government. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/m...
The answer to this is that he’s so rich that our legal system is no longer able to restrain him. That’s the actual answer. Trump thinks he (Trump) is a king but the person closest to being a king in 2026 is in fact Elon Musk. This is an enormous problem and it has to be solved.
Gregg Gonsalves"If there is a question to ask, then, it is this: Why does Musk get a pass? Why do politicians, journalists and commentators treat his far-right racist radicalism as a sideshow rather than the core of his political, ideological and industrial project..." www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/o...
