And @nytimes.com now mentioning how much like the railroad boom it is, though they're kinda glowing about it www.nytimes.com/interactive/... But if AI is like late 1800s rail infrastructure, what will mid 1900s air travel map to?

Oh wow @johnstepek.bsky.social (who I apparently have blocked due to a big list of transphobic accounts called "A Very British Bigotry") from @opinion.bloomberg.com has a similar perspective www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
"Artificial Intelligence" is a huge misnomer. "Pattern Engine" would be more accurate and would remind people there's no intelligence happening, just pattern recognition and recreation based on training sets
Dorian LynskeyI've written a few books and checked all the quotes (deleting some bangers because I doubted their authenticity) and if you're letting fabricated ones slip through then you're cutting corners in an egregious way. It is not the copy-editor's job to check every source, it's yours. Do the damn work
Like my parents dealt with technology changing & economic downturn in their 40s but I recall them just being moderately worried about how to adapt + manage it all, not feeling bleak about their entire lives. It was a "we'll get through the uncertainty" not a "how am I supposed to survive all this" 🤔
I know it's normal to have a bit of a midlife feeling of directionlessness + uncertainty in your 40s but is the part where fascist governments are illegalizing your identity + public existence and/or reckless billionaires are encouraging mass unemployment in your field *also* normal, or not so much?
A lot of what-the-hell moments in this story, but building a data center in a floodplain in Louisiana is inviting the wrath of Poseidon.
I don't have enough bandwidth for the DiscHorse360 Premium weekly service, so if there's just a quarterly rollup of hottakes I can install, that'd be easiest. And I guess if there's an RSS feed for Critical Viewpoint Enhancements which score 8 or higher, that'd be helpful to subscribe to. Lmk, tysm!
I haven't been paying enough attention to Bluesky, and apparently the discs in my disc horse need updated. I see "Theyfabs v3.1 for DiscHorse5" is out of private beta & officially released to the public (I still had v1.7, oops!) but what other disc horse updates am I missing? I disabled auto-updates
