queer, single-mom, will read almost anything but it's best if it's wangxian fanfic. she/her 18+

Absolutely - the laws exist and they are entirely capable of using them in the weaponized way you describe. The fact that they aren't invoked in so many instances suggests to me there is a large category of false reports the police and other authorities thrive on.

I hope your uncle and others in your family can appreciate what you've written.

As someone who tends to write in moments of grief and joy, and sometimes share those things I write with people who aren't always comfortable with emotional expression, I think most of the time the sharing has been appreciated. I could just be telling myself that, but it's felt true.

Last week we had a check in with supervisors to hear about the wonderful new "AI" efficiencies and GUESS WHAT??!! Nothing but complaints about AI SLOP. I'm not sure whether to 🤣 or 😭. Cue Helena Bonham Carter in A Room with a View saying, "But of course [...], what did you all think?"

030

They say they appreciate my position but respectfully disagree and have spent much of the last year pushing "AI" on our staff (supposedly regulating use that was already happening but that's not at all how it's played out imo).

If you decide not to, you might consider sharing what you wrote with a smaller group of people who know you and/or knew your aunt and will be able to hold the loss with you in a way that feels supportive.

130

There might also be people who just can't deal (it sounds like you suspect this, esp given the unwillingness to read it for you). I think you get to decide if their feelings will undercut the value of sharing those stories with them. No right or wrong here.

In every crowd there are likely to be some people who are especially grateful that you brought in something so personal and meaningful, because they'll have known your aunt and you'll have shared something she did that connects with aspects of who she was that they probably appreciated too.

130

I don't think you'd be doing that. If you told those stories at a memorial to my family, they'd be appreciated. And not true for everyone's families. That doesn't mean you shouldn't share, it just means you probably should decide based on how you'll feel about it regardless of how it's received.

There's nothing inherently embarrassing about sharing deeply personal connections to someone you loved and are honoring. The question for me would be, how are you going to feel (if you could read it or get someone to read it) sharing those stories with the people who will be there.

Where I live in New England, we never water grass either. Well, some people do, but most don't and it's entirely unnecessary. Summers have always been wet. But at least the last couple years, August and Sept have been dry and grass has gotten pretty dull well before it should.

Meanwhile, smoke from the fires at home. Like when the hell are our governments going to wake the hell up and get serious about the fact that pretty soon we're all going to be on fire?

I think it's gotten worse even in just the week I've been here. Lots of people on it and not a drop of rain in sight.

100

Yeah it's down to the dirt in a lot of the park. I don't think they water ever bc I imagine they never had to in the past. But it just isn't raining.

It was great to see you, too. This week has been NON STOP and really great (and not over), but seeing you was a highlight.

He's so beautiful. I'm so sad about those shoes.

Quietly rooting for Norway in London.

Yeah, great to see her. I've been working since I got here and will be working all week, but it was nice to take a day and hang.
