The course still exists in theory but it's only an elective now. They also changed it so that there's only one version (instead of macro and micro).

Yea it's sad the program basically killed the course and most of the heterodox component of the PhD program after last year. I took the course as an elective as a masters student because I had a feeling it may never be taught again.

I had him for the last class he ever taught, last year for Macro Political Economy. He was very ill, but he was pushing through it so hard to teach us. I wish I could have known him longer.

He was already ill when he was my teacher. My class with him was the last one he ever taught. He wasn't able to stand up very much during class and had appointments at the hospital every day, but he pushed through it, because he thought political economy was important and he wanted us to learn.

This is awful!! Professor Blecker was my instructor for Macro Political Economy. I just spoke to him at the EEA Conference in May. I only knew him for a couple years, but he was a mentor to me and was tremendously helpful to me when I was writing my capstone.

Also, he didn't "invent" macro. Mainstream macro is influenced by Keynes's theories of aggregate demand, but he didn't, like, invent GDP and the CPI. Under the broadest definition, macro goes as far back as Ibn Khaldun in the 14th century.

Keynes was arguing that if you drop the assumption that capitalism is a barter system where supply & demand are in constant equilibrium, then you get collapses in demand that require rescue. It's not strictly about helping investors. It's a theoretical explanation for capitalism's instability.

As a political historian of the 20th Century, I can tell you that "anti-communism" is a deep-rooted catch-all not only for anti-left-wing politics, but more often than not, anti-liberalism altogether. Anti-communism as a movement doesn't simply attack people, it subverts democratic institutions.
