Currently sitting and reading in a non-corporate coffee shop in Harvard Square while the first Modern Lovers album plays in its entirety, and I’m pretty sure this is what patriotism feels like.

Gregg Araki’s delightfully smutty I WANT YOUR SEX is the rare satire of Gen-Z sexual hangups that feels more affectionate than mean-spirited. Review in Boston Hassle— catch it at @thecoolidge.bsky.social! bostonhassle.com/review-i-wan...

In preparation for this week’s column I watched FIRST BLOOD for the first time, and I am 100% convinced today’s online right-wingers would decry it as “woke.”

While generally I’m a believer in keeping forms of media distinct (hence the lack of TV reviews on the Hassle), I like the Criterion Channel’s push into classic TV like THE PRISONER and EVANGELION. TV shows on streaming tend to be treated like Content Sludge, and it’s nice to see some curation.

Obligatory.

DiscussingFilm

Disney has met with Macaulay Culkin about a new ‘HOME ALONE’ movie. Culkin's pitch for the film had Kevin as a single dad who gets locked out of the house by his estranged son — “The house is a sort of metaphor for our relationship” (Source: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...)

LRT: I like that prompt memes on Bluesky travel on an elliptical orbit, resurfacing periodically like Halley’s Comet, or Pennywise.

Finally caught up with SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, and the biggest mystery I hope the new one resolves is why these kids sent in all their college applications in October.

Odd fact: Ben Affleck has won 100% of the Oscars for which he’s been nominated, but he’s never been nominated for either of the jobs he’s best known for.

I love that both Bobby and Cooper independently refer to Leo as a “hump” in entirely unrelated conversations. Some guys are just humps.

Robert Altman’s THE ODYSSEY // Christopher Nolan’s POPEYE

Having now seen THE ODYSSEY twice— once at AMC, once at the Coolidge, both in non-IMAX 70mm— my take is that format and screen size matter far less than seeing it at a theater with a trained and skilled projection staff.
