i feel kinda bad when i take especially long on one person's commission, because i worry that they might think i hate their character or something for the record, the opposite tends to be true. sometimes i take extra long because i really want to do a character/idea justice

see cause i actually really enjoy beat em up gameplay but it's rare to find one that really looks as fun as it plays. kinda not into the hyper masculine feel a lot of them go for, you know?

i'm realizing now that i've often struggled to get into beat em ups because most of them don't have a particularly compelling aesthetic. streets of rage 2 is a great game but the "vibe" is boring to me we need like, cute em up styled beat em ups. cotton except you're beating the shit out of dudes

ig that's the problem with "one size fits all" advice right. art is kind of a funny thing, being both a tangible skill you can get better at and a deeply personal form of self expression. ultimately art discussion would be a lot more productive if we admitted that everyone's priorities are different

i thought about what kind of advice i'd give to a beginner but it really depends like, if you're just starting out you should learn to love the process before anything. but if you're already trying to improve then you need more practical advice for studying

wish i had some spicy takes about it but i don't really i think people just need to be more clear about what their "beginner" advice is actually meant to communicate. beginner art advice yt is kind of a hodgepodge of fundamental art skills, broader advice for creating, and practical digital art tips

one of my weirder habits is watching art tutorial videos that i don't really need i guess i kind of like to hear what beginners are hearing i dunno
