I suspected as much, but I would have believed you if you told me you'd managed to pencil in such a clean shadow lol. Anyway, the effect over the top is amazing!

Genuinely interested - did you do the shadow all traditional (pencil on paper) or is that a digital layer over the top of the base drawing?

Alcohol markers look cool!! I kind of want to find something bold that can mimic cartoony styles like danganronpa (and anime in general) but maybe I'll do research into what’s best there.

this isn't a vent post or anything. more just what is on my mind. I have been getting more and more happy with my work lately, it has its short comings, my lines still often lack confidence where it matters... but a splash of colour, and not just using 2 or 3 ink pens is probably a good idea

Absolutely. I stopped using pencil as I was erasing wayyy too much (and love the character of pen lines), but using pen has helped my discipline some. Excited to evolve my process! Thank you for being so supportive!! :)

My knowledge of values is definitely also up, given the amount of hatching I've done, but my colour theory is... barebones to say the least.

Still enjoying traditional art a lot. So much easier to just pick up and do, easier to live with mistakes etc. Part of me is wondering if I should get back into digital. It's just... a lot. It feels like a swiss army knife, too many tools and options.

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you for taking the time to explain this all to me! Currently just doing everything in ink, including sketch so it's little wonder I don't get that crisp distinction between areas and shades.

It does, I assume you map out in pencil, rather than pen? Then erase all pencil after finished hatching?

This really is incredible, your line work is just so smooth and the finished piece just pops. I'm going to have to study your hatching technique and try it out myself!
