Yep! I start my sketch with a 2H pencil, ink the main lines, then map out my hatching areas. After hatching, I go over the outer lines in more ink to pull them forward. Then when the ink is dry (it's fast with micron pens) I erase the pencil.

This makes a lot of sense. Thank you for taking the time to explain this all to me! Currently just doing everything in ink, including sketch so it's little wonder I don't get that crisp distinction between areas and shades.

I started out drawing like that. Planning out a drawing with pencil first takes more time, but it's worth it in the end! Also, flicking the pen quickly makes the lines sketchy, but slowly can make them cleaner (unless the micron is dying, like in my last drawing).
